I've tried water drops before and I have been wanting to have a go again for a while so what better time than during my October Challenge.
I forgot how long it takes to set stuff up before pressing the shutter for the first time though and I ran out of time before I got bored but along the way I managed to get a few shots similar to the last time that I tried ... which was disappointing!
However, I then discovered something that dramatically improved some of the shots - this technique is not all about accurate focusing it needs sufficient light to stop down to extreme shutter speeds. I don't have powerful studio lights but I DO have my Pocket Wizards which can sync at very high speeds and as a result I was able to shoot at 1/6400 with my "humble" SB-900.
I got a few shots that seemed markedly better to me but then ultimately ran out of time - which leaves me eager to try it again ;).

A last minute shot, 23:52pm to be precise! Getting ready for bed, the subject matter presented itself to me.
Shot taken for the Photo-a-day-for-a-month group . This is my photo for 27th October
Today I've been to Bradgate Park in Leicestershire, a deer park and the ancestral home of Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for 9 days in 1553 before she lost her head. Today was sunny for a change although very cold and many people came out to enjoy the day. The vast majority of people tend to stick to the main pathway that goes through the park but walk off any of the many trails and you can practically be on your own.
I've taken loads of photos of scenery, deer, birds, but seemed to be attracted to taking photos of people today as well. So here we have a couple walking down the hill towards the Jacobean ruins. Check out the glove on her right hand.
If they see the photo, I hope they like it.

This is a shot of a man in Chelmsford who for some reason had been asked to leave the Barista Bar on Duke Street - he didn't want to leave so ended up in a brawl with two of the bouncers/staff - they managed to pin him to the ground and called for Police backup.
I managed to get a couple of shot on my Nikon D7000 using the highest ISO setting (H2 = ISO25600) - I have tweaked the picture in Adobe Camera RAW and cropped it - I am amazed at how much detail and tonal range still remains along with the lack of noise and grain even at this high ISO

The observant amongst you will notice I've missed a day. This is because I spent nearly all day out with the camera yesterday and have got so many shots to go through. I had thought yesterday I might find some fungi and got the bottle in this shot ready for cleaning them up. In the event I didn't take the bottle as it was too big and so it was still in the kitchen window. Today though I have to do housewifely things like cooking Sunday roast, so just a quick shot of the bottle.

Confined to home today with a workman on site, so a quick photo of this moth that has been under my carport for a couple of days.

The grey skies and rain didn't stop us having a great trip out in the canoe today. There was a big splash next to the boat at one point which we thought was a salmon jumping but when we looked there was a large dark head looking at us out of the water no more than 12 feet from us, it was a grey seal checking us out! This is the life.

1 October, and we're off! I'll make a start with a juxtaposition of stunning scenery and the drudge of Teignmouth commuter traffic. View On Black

I only took a couple of shots today, so this will have to be the one for my October picture a day challenge for 10th October &
No. 32/116 - Dry for the 116 Pictures in 2016 challenge.
Unbelievable - only two days ago I said my last two shots would be outdoors ... yet here I am back indoors ;).
Still, it's Halloween so with a very happy H&C Jnr bundled off to bed my time came and I pinched a few props, put up with the smell of roasting pumpkin and set to work.
I took lots of shots of this with all the lighting controlled manually so there was a lot of experimenting to see what worked. When reviewing this on the computer I decided to use one without flash as the light seemed more balanced but when I reviewed the EXIF I actually realised that this did have the flash on but only subtly to add just a touch of detail into the outside of the pumpkin.
So the chosen shot was taken at 1/5 @ f/5.6 using a 105mm with an SB-900 (plus small Interfit diffuser) positioned camera right and roughly table level to add fill and bring out the background just a touch. The flash was on manual probably at 1/128 ... certainly no more than 1/64.
That completes my October Challenge for the second year. Thank you very much to all that have contributed to the group and especially those that have found time to comment on my photos ... it's been great fun again and I plan to be back next year ;).

I only just left the house and spotted the light isolating on this part of the kerb. I did go for a walk for an hour, took more photos, but came back to this one as my favourite, I guess because of the light as it went flat soon after that.

A witch and plague doctor mix seems the perfect send off. I did it! I had a lot of fun but... I think now I might need a break
Went for a sunset shot this evening, but the lovely ones of the last couple of nights were not to be repeated tonight. A slither of sunset over the bypass construction site.

I start the October Photo a Day challenge with a sprained ankle so not ventured further than the garden. For saying it's only Day 1, I've flitted from one subject to another!
Seeing as I was the best dad in the world this morning and secured my eldest daughter tickets to see her hero Taylor Swift in February, she agreed to be my subject today.
The highest point we can find the Albercutx Watchtower at 380 metres above sea level. The late 16th century tower was one of the main lookout points to ward off the constant threat of corsairs.

Today's is "Silent Mist" from IG artist maruti_bitamin
Since I've already done Silent Hill fanart twice this month I opted for a nice and simple spooky ghostie.
I just packed my CDs off to Music Magpie...they accept albums, DVDs, and games. Β£40 winging it's way to me just in time for the fast-approaching MW3 release date :-)
I even managed to sneak one of the wife's albums in there... Can you spot it?

3 October. The ewes are enjoying the autumn grass... except when the heavens open and they start to float away. Hopefully a better lambing season to come than the last one.
