All ready for family pics. This is what happens when I don't shoot outdoors for a while. I tend to bring the kitchen sink with me! You never quite know what light you'll be given even when you scout an area hours beforehand! This particular day started off as a gorgeous sunny afternoon with the sun nice and low in the sky to create warm soft long shadows. The sun was moving quickly, however, and the light was changing rapidly. At one point it was if someone just turned out the lights as the sun dropped below some clouds on the horizon. Then it was time to switch to all natural light. You don't need all this stuff to take good family photos, but I used every piece of it at one point in my last shoot. Thanks Erin for seeing this photograph before I packed it all up and helping me carry it all throughout the park!

Meet Doug AKA thewoodenshoes, I met him last week after spending a few days with him and got to go out shooting with him as well. I have been following his work for quite some time and I am a HUGE fan. It was awesome to be able to meet him, especially cause I admire him as a photographer and now as a person. He is so giving with his technical knowledge and knows a ton. He is a devoted husband and father, and has been taking photographs for many years. He is mostly a landscape artist and his stream is awe-inspiring and is amazing. He is beginning to jump into the portrait side of photography and is KILLING it! He serves our wonderful country in the U.S. Coast Guard, and has about 5 more years to retire. I had such a blast hanging out with him here in the studio and getting to pick his brain going out to Corona Del Mar and watching him work. He has such a great personality and I knew that this was the pose I wanted from him as he is such a great guy who just loves life. He definitely makes you feel like life is just plain ol' A-OK!!!!! Make sure to visit his stream for some wonderful photographs!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy,
Hector

This is Blake, Chief Shoe Giver at TOMS. We had a portrait session last month that I hadn't really posted much from yet, so I figured let's post it now. Probably one of my most fun shoots to date. More stuff will be uploaded later, maybe.

For those of you who aren't aware of what TOMS shoes are, here's a quick run down. TOMS are shoes (duh) that when you buy a pair, the company donates a brand new pair to a child in need. Since 2006, TOMS has grown exponentially, delivering more than 140,000 shoes, and expecting to give away more than 300,000 this year.
So yeah, if you're looking for a way to help people, and are kind of strapped on time, buy yourself some shoes that you can actually feel good about.

This weekend we set out to knock out a couple of Katherine's requested shots--casual and cap & gown. We chose an area in Cane Creek Park and started shooting. Overall, I was happy with the variety of shots we got. This is just one of many favorites from the session.
