My first shooting in the Hidden Room at Dreamworks Animation.
It's very small, I need to use my laptop with tethering because my camera viewfinder was blocked by a furniture.
Light by 2 Quadra :
One on right with a 39" Softbox Deep Octa with orange gel.
One on left inside a shade with orange gel too.
2 secondes exposure to bring more ambiant light (very low).

this is dex this was def an accident we were ling up his head shot and i oer zoomed on the wide angle (17-40mm f4 L) and this is the result haha good to know its a versatile lens and i can use it for live shots as well as promos and portraits because of the distortion but for nearly $800 i think it should be at least f2.8 but still i love this lens to deathhhh
things savign to buy 85mm 1.8, and upgrading my 50 1.8 to a 50 1.4 for obvious reasons

Another shot of the lovely Kristina. If you've followed my work at all over the past year you'd be familiar with my headscarf series. Well since Kristina was wearing a scarf during our shoot I figured I HAD to grab a couple shots like this - glad I did.
Lighting for this is a large octabox, camera left with studio strobe. Large silver reflector camera right close to model. 1x3 stripbox, camera right and behind model as a hair/rim light.

Well, it's just one speedlite ;-)
This is a flash composite, made from seven shots. Each shot was illuminated with a hand-held octabox Firefly II in a different orientation with a TTL flash inside (YN-568C, triggered via YN-622). And then I did the fusion in Photoshop.
EXIF AND SETTINGS
5d3 with 24-70 f/2.8 at 50 mm and at f/16 (!, high DOF); JPEG format, WB on flash, 1/200 second, ISO 500 (I checked --- that still blocked the ambient light). The camera was on a tripod and I triggered it with a cable release. --- so one hand for the cable release, one hand for the softbox.
Flash on TTL, triggered via 2x YN-622C.
TRICKS AND NOTES
Note the high f-stop: I chose that to get the whole De Longhi sharp ...
If you want to try that: dont let Photoshop align the images, it will probabely not work --- but they should be ok. And then set all the blending modes on Lighter Color.
The perhaps most interesting trick is, that this type of shot does not require you to dim the lights, as if does not involve a long-time exposure ....

Was out in Austin last week visiting my friend and fellow flickr photographer Ainsley Joseph. He setup up a little studio shoot in the morning. Was fun working with a great crew.
I loved Austin and definetly want to make it back out there with my wife for a non work trip. Lots of good food!

Please let me know your thoughts. Any improvements?
I have used a wind blower from the left, one octabox from the front left and on the right a smaller softbox. And ofcourse I have used one light to make the background brighter.

After receiving my new gear I wanted to get a shot in all my 'gear'.
I love the new Manfrotto boom. Its extremely easy to maneuver and adjust. The only hard part is first setting it up. But once you get it balanced and adjusted, its amazingly easy to use and push around.
It came with a 15lb plate to use on the opposite end to balance, and then I ordered two 15lb bags to put on the base.
The new Octabox is HUGE. I like the light it gives off, doesn't matter how high you turn the flash up it still delivers evenly and pretty soft throughout!
I accidentally ordered two of them though, and I called up Paul C Buff and they said I could return it and get a full refund, so that was cool of them.
I got the grid for the Octabox, but haven't opened it yet, I'm sure I could of used it for this shoot though.

Triggered two flashes using PocketWizard Plus iii. Used an SB-910 with a Wescott 26" Octabox as main light shooting from above flagged off preventing light spill to the background. There is also a gridded SB-700 to the right of the camera on a stand with a snoot used as fill light.
Single octabox to camera left. High and pretty close to subject.
No retouching. Simply upped the contrast a tiny bit in photoshop. THATS IT!

This is my last street portrait so far experimenting with location lighting and is a real cool character.
Again in Brighton and the day was slipping away and becoming cold and Colin and I were keen to get off having made an attempt to get to the sea front which was too windy for the OctaBox and too cold for us we started to head back to the car.
I spotted this doorway by some steps and wanted to wait a while in case someone came along, it wash;t long before I spotted this chap and loved his hat and all black clothing and thought "Yes, he would do nicely!".
I ran over and introduced myself and he was walking with two ladies. We got talking and he told me his name was Danny and he is a music tutor from Liverpool who was spending some time in Sussex and having a day out in Brighton.
He was totally Dapper Dan in his black hat and velvet waistcoat. as we took the pictures his friends were doing selfies behind us so maybe I'll get to see those pics somehow if Danny sees this picture. As I took the images Dan was telling me he is friends with a few photographers..no pressure then :)
As the light was changing by this point I had to take a few mints to work out my exposures again with the location lighting and I had a few issues with the brightness on the red door - in reflection I should have moved further forward or feathered the light even more by adapting the position of the light but I think energy was flagging and Colin's arms must have ached my then from holding the light stand up in the air!
Great end to my first foray into location lighting and street portraits.
