Lighting was two strobepro speedlights the first one was in a 48" octabox positioned camera left on a c stand, the second was a 30 inch octabox behind the model camera right. The main light was angled slightly to the right and down. I had someone assist and hold a white 30 inch reflector below the model. Background was some black fabric from a local fabric shop. Editing was in lightroom and in photoshop. Photo by James Moxley Photography (www.jamesmoxley.com)

Katrina + Samurai Sword + new Octabox + GREAT night of shooting!!
Those eyes... that stare... Ouch.
I was very excited to open and play with my new CL (Creative Light) Octabox. I wasn't sure that a single SB-900 would fill the new box, but it seemed to do a really great job. At f/5.6, I was using 1/2 power out of the SB-900 (at 1/800 sec to reduce the ambient light in the room). So, I have a bit more power if I ever need it.
The 105 DC continues to impress...

It's been 3 years since I uploaded here, and even longer since I had anyone besides family members in front of my camera. I miss creating very much. It's an itch I really need to scratch. I'm going to get back to it this year as we exit winter, this is my commitment! Looking forward to learning, growing, and creating again.
This shot is a flashback to June 2018, working with the beautiful Camilla on my first fitness shoot. She was fantastic to work with.

It's been a few months since I shot this. These guys recorded a full-length, and hit me up to have some promotional photos and album art taken. The name of their album is "Starting Over", and they wanted to shoot in a local elementary school. This is what we came up with.

Recently I did one of my regular trips to our local artisan chocolate maker in the next village and the designs on the tablet looked so nice I got inspired to take a photo of them: one milk chocolate, one dark.
We are now actively engaged in the process of eating them!

This is not an ice cube but a crystal of “fleur de sel” salt from Guérande in Brittany. I photographed it using my bellows almost fully extended, so we’re at an 8–10× ratio here (the background is a sheet of paper, so you can have an idea of the magnification by looking at the fibers). I thought it would be white and was very surprised to see that “fleur de sel” crystals are almost transparent –and thus, of course, even more difficult to light. I estimated the size of this as perhaps 1.2 millimeters.
I will upload a second attempt tomorrow, lit naturally.
Composite shot made of 4 focus–stacked exposures. Focus set manually using the Novoflex Castel XQ–II focusing rail under the bellows. Stack processed with Helicon Focus.

Strobes set and triggered via Phottix Pro Odin II radio controller on the Nikon Z7 hotshoe, manual mode. Sekonic L–858D light meter used to balance light sources. Gitzo GR3543XLS tripod with Arca–Swiss Cube C1 geared head. Nikon Z7 camera body, Novoflex BALPRO T/S bellows on Castel XQ–II focusing rail, Laowa 100m f/2.8 2× macro lens.
