Ominous sky indeed! Stormy skies were observed just to the south. This was a thunderstorm that had produced decent lightning, along with copious amounts of hail! Pic taken from San Jose, CA.

Certainly, February 2015 was ending with a bang, weather-wise for the Bay Area! A low pressure system that had originated from the Canadian coast had ushered strong instability in the atmosphere. T-storms had developed around the region. During the morning hours, storm clouds were already towering due to the unstable airmass. By early afternoon, things really started ramping up. Thanks to the afternoon heating, t-storms erupted. Even one had formed just south of my area! I watched and observed the t-storm intensify. Thunder and lightning proceeded with constant rumbles of thunder. My adrenaline rush had skyrocketed. I had parked around Fowler Creek Park to observe the storm. The lightning, thunder, rain and hail continued before diminishing after 3 p.m. My storm-loving self has been satisfied!

Weather scenario and summary:

A cold low pressure system had ushered atmospheric instability on February 28, 2015, causing strong convective scattered t-storm development all over the Bay Area. The region had observed hail, heavy rain, thunder and lightning...the whole shebang! A t-storm had even dumped LOTS of hail in an isolated area around South San Jose, making the affected area look like it was dusted with snow! The low that had brought the wild weather to the Bay Area had weakened as it slowly headed south... It was certainly a crazy day weather-wise for the Bay Area on the last day of February!

Various animals at the zoo do like to observe people watching them, even when they sit down they still like to be watching rather than turn their backs. Curiosity in big cats too?

Not sure what loco this is pulling a fine rake of Pullman coaches heading up onto the moors after leaving Levisham, but I do know the observation coach was empty, I guess most were tucking into a three course meal further up the train.

This meteorite was first reported to have fallen around the midnight of 4 May 2012 in Tharparker region (Sindh), Pakistan. After that, efforts were made to recover it, by a team from SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) and local villagers.

It weighed 73 grams and its contents included Iron, Nickel, Zinc and Cobalt. The largest percentage was of Iron (11%).

During a recent astronomy related event I observed this meteorite personally. It was something 'heavenly' for sure.

:: 48 :: Spent some time with family today.

Observed drinking at a troph in farmland.

Interesting behaviour observed in the Bumblebee colony today. I noticed that several of the bees were congregated on the ledge at the entrance fanning their wings furiously in front of the entrance holes. I concluded that they were endeavouring to cool the air as it was very hot, so I propped the front of the lid open to let more air flow through the hive. That seemed to work, and they resumed collecting pollen. The number of cells have increased markedly since they have been established in the garden.

Observed during our visit to London, England, United Kingdom in June 2016. A memorable city, highly recommended.

Plateau Point overlooks the Granite Gorge between Pipe Creek Canyon and Monument Canyon. It provides a view of the Colorado River from about 1,300 feet (400 m)

Several employees from Polk CI (FL) were recently recognized in a letter of commendation from the warden for their response during a critical medical emergency. In his letter, Warden Rivero stated, “I observed security staff and Corizon medical staff working together feverishly on the inmate. I was impressed with how everyone was working together and not giving up on this inmate.” Great job, Polk CI Team!

She observed me, stop her motion then looked at me.

Also I was eyeballing her and felt weird.

Even though looks so fierce, she is temperate.

February 13th marked International Condom Day, a holiday observed in conjunction with Valentine’s Day that promotes prevention of STDs, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies through free condom distribution and safer sex awareness events and activities.

With the success of last year's "Condoms Are Cool" theme, AHF was proud to launch "Wrap Your App!" in the United States—where AHF hosted events in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia—with events aimed specifically at youth, who account for 1 in 4 new HIV infections. The “Wrap Your App!” campaign—promoting safety and HIV, STD and pregnancy prevention—is a nod to tech savvy individuals built around a smartphone-themed graphic showing a menu of apps.

AHF also launched "Wrap Your Love" across the globe—our teams hosted over 160 events across the 35 countries we serve: distributing condoms, providing HIV testing, and hosting flash mobs.

Bloomsday is a commemoration observed annually on June 16th in Dublin and elsewhere to celebrate the life of Irish writer James Joyce and relive the events in his novel Ulysses, all of which took place on the same day in Dublin in 1904. Joyce chose the date because his first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle happened on that day, when they walked to the Dublin urban village of Ringsend. The name derives from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of Ulysses.

"Avery Island’s most spectacular feature was developed by the late Edward Avery McIlhenny, known as "Monsieur Ned" by his French speaking friends and associates. Much of the world knows about TABASCO® Pepper Sauce, made for over 125 years on Avery Island, Louisiana. Not as many people know that Avery Island is actually a salt dome that extends some eight miles beneath the earth's surface. Or that the protruding "island" part of the formation is home to the world's most beautiful sanctuaries for the preservation and study of flora and fauna.

It was on Avery Island, where salt and pepper meet, that Edward McIlhenny helped save the snowy egret from extinction. In 1895 when the bird was being hunted for its plummage, McIlhenny built an aviary on Avery Island and captured and raised eight wild egrets. After they had raised their hatches and were ready to migrate, McIlhenny freed them. The egrets returned the next spring and every spring since. The egrets and herons return by the thousands to the rookery now called "Bird City". Not surprisingly, Jungle Gardens is a birder's paradise, home to hundreds of species of resident and migratory birds.

McIlhenny did much more to ensure that feature generations had an ideal spot to enjoy and study the beauties of nature and to observe plants and flowers from around the world in his 200 acre Jungle Gardens. The gardens are home to a large collection of camellias. Thousands of plants represent some 600 varieties, including imports from Japan and France, as well as varieties that McIlhenny developed on Avery Island. You will see acres upon acres of bright azalea flowers that carpet the landscape in the spring. Massive live oak trees are prevalent throughout the gardens, along with brilliant wildflowers and groves of evergreens. The Chinese Garden contains a Buddha sculpture dating back to 1000 A.D."
