International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since 2000[5] to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The date represents the day in 1952 when students from different educational institutions such as Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College demonstrating for recognition of their language, Bengali, as one of the two national languages of the then Pakistan, were shot and killed by police in Dhaka (near High Court), which is the capital of present-day Bangladesh.

The term "mother language" is, itself, a somewhat awkward calque translation of the term used in a number of "Romance languages"—e.g. lengua materna (Spanish), lingua madre (Italian), langue maternelle (French), and so on. A more fluent English translation would perhaps be "mother tongue", though "native language" is the most readily comprehensible term in English. In linguistics, in fact, "mother language" refers to an ancestral or protolanguage of a particular branch of a language family.

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 (30C/62). On 16 May 2009 the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/61/266 called upon Member States "to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world".[6] By the same resolution, the General Assembly proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages, to promote unity in diversity and international understanding, through multilingualism and multiculturalism.Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. We uphold the principles of social justice when we promote gender equality or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.

For the United Nations, the pursuit of social justice for all is at the core of our global mission to promote development and human dignity. The adoption by the International Labour Organization of the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization is just one recent example of the UN system’s commitment to social justice. The Declaration focuses on guaranteeing fair outcomes for all through employment, social protection, social dialogue, and fundamental principles and rights at work.

The General Assembly proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice in 2007, inviting Member States to devote the day to promoting national activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the World Summit for Social Development and the twenty-fourth session of the General Assembly. Observance of World Day of Social Justice should support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and justice for all.

I observed a new territorially tense pair somewhere on the West side of Park Blvd. Because the house number is so prominently displayed, I won’t disclose location—other than to note that a “For Rent” sign stood outside the property on that sunny morning.

Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February). It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar.

The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a Vel "spear" so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. There is a misconception among people that Thaipusam marks Murugan's birthday; however, it is believed that Vaikhasi Vishakam, which falls in the Vaikhasi month (May/June), is Murugan's birthday.

In Malaysia, the temple at Batu Caves, near Kuala Lumpur, often attracts over one million devotees and tens of thousands of tourists. The procession to the caves starts at the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur in the heart of the city and proceeds for 15 kilometers to the caves, an 8-hour journey culminating in a flight of 272 steps to the top. Devotees carry containers containing milk as offering to Lord Murugan either by hand or in huge decorated carriers on their shoulders called 'kavadi'. The kavadi may be simple wooden arched semi-circular supports holding a carrier foisted with brass or clay pots of milk or huge, heavy ones which may rise up to two metres, built of bowed metal frames which hold long skewers, the sharpened end of which pierce the skin of the bearers torso. The kavadi is decorated with flowers and peacock feathers imported from India. Some kavadi may weigh as much as a hundred kilograms. After bathing in the nearby Sungei Batu (Rocky River), the devotees make their way to the Temple Cave and climb the flights of stairs to the temple in the cave. Devotees use the wider centre staircase while worshippers and onlookers throng up and down those balustrades on either side. When the kavadi bearer arrives at the foot of the 272-step stairway leading up to the Temple Cave, the devotee has to make the arduous climb. Priests attend to the kavadi bearers. Consecrated ash is sprinkled over the hooks and skewers piercing the devotees' flesh before they are removed. No blood is shed during the piercing and removal.

On Thursday, November 11, 2021, the nation observed Veterans Day. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, and VA Secretary McDonough observed the day with a traditional wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Veterans Day ceremonial events were held across Washington, D.C., including at the World War I Memorial, the National World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial. (VA photo/Robert Turtil)

I observed Dee from a distance playing with her two children before she came up to me to ask me what I was doing (with my large sign "advertising" my 100 Strangers Project). I explained the project to her and she was initially a bit tenative to have her photo taken. However, she was extremely pleasant and politely interested in my project.

In my inevitably awkward way, I asked her if she wouldn't mind taking off her sunglasses. You can't see it with the crop but she has just taken off her glasses when I took this photo. I found out that the two children with her were foster children. I really wanted to ask her more about her providing a foster home for children, but I didn't want the kids to become restless while we talked. Thank you so much Dee for helping me with my project. My best to you and your kids.

No matter who or where you are you can always stop for a second, forget about yourself and all that is you, and appreciate all the "invisible" things around you. You'd be amazed what you might find.

Alright, so the idea behind this is basically to showoff my campus a little... Not really. But I wanted to show that no matter what or who you are, you can appreciate simple things in your everyday life that normally are being overlooked.

In this particular image the bird stands for 'everyone' and my campus for the 'everyday life around you' if it's work or school.

So as I said this is an image of my college campus. My school is a second year winner of "most beautiful campus" in the U.S according to The Princeton Review. The architecture and layout of the college is just fantastic. Here is one of many spots that makes this campus the best.

Thank you for watching!
