We hiked to the small village of Batad where we stayed a couple of nights and hired a guide to show us the ancient rice terraces said to be over a thousand years old. The technology to create such terracing is presumed to have come from the early Chinese, from the southwest part of China. We did note the similarity of these terracing to that observed in the Ping An region of China. To see the comparison, search my flickr site using the heading of "Ping An".
As I observed the squabbling, the gull in the middle seemed intent upon securing its prime roost at all cost.
Meanwhile, the one on the right seemed to care less...as the one-legged man who'd decided to opt out of an ass-kicking contest.

24th Annual Chariot festival of Sri Mayurapathy Paththirakaali temple is held today (6th of August 2011) in Colombo amidst heavy downpour. Five wooden carved chariots parade through the streets of Bambalapitty (Colombo 04) and Wellawatte (Colombo 06).
Devotees dressed elegantly and took part in religious rituals such as carrying clay pots of camphor, rolling themselves on the ground, smashing coconuts and hanging on hooks (Kaavadi ~ Men only). Few devotees who fulfill their vows, got into trance and danced on the streets. Devotional songs played throughout the dazzling parade. Traditional and non ~ traditional musical instruments added colour to the festival
I first observed this beauty sometime in late February or early March 2019—and a fair number of times since but more frequently during the past month, when being accustomed to my presence she started approaching for pats as I walked by.
Because she sits before a building's street number—for her safety and privacy of whomever the owner might be—I won't identify the street, other than that she lives somewhere on the West side of Park Blvd. (That's a sizable number of possible apartments or homes. Don't bother being a sleuth.) The frisky feline earns nickname Savvy for apparently being—and let's hope that she is—street smart.

Various animals at the zoo do like to observe people watching them, even when they sit down they still like to be watching rather than turn their backs. Curiosity in big cats too?
Not sure what loco this is pulling a fine rake of Pullman coaches heading up onto the moors after leaving Levisham, but I do know the observation coach was empty, I guess most were tucking into a three course meal further up the train.
