Empty Words (so that we can do our living) is a nine-hour participatory multimedia poem. Featuring spoken word, live music, projections, art objects, and other actions, this spontaneous blend of community festival and theatrical performance is tempered by a sense of thoughtful expectation.
Inspired by poet/composer John Cage’s objective to demilitarize the English language so that we “can’t control one another,” Szyhalski’s event asks: what new ideas emerge when familiar devices of control are rendered useless? Empty Words challenges us to consider empty flags, parades without meaning, or demilitarized history. This dusk ’til dawn collective contemplation of surrender and renewal is a movement toward a hopeful future — a transformation of darkness into light, of words into music.
Throughout the evening, the public is invited to participate in readings of “Empty Words,” Cage’s playful and poetic experimental text. Live performances of Vexations by Erik Satie — including accordion, bass, cello, clarinet, double bass, electric violin, electronics, keyboard, piano, saxophone, synthesizer, violin, and vocals — continue until sunrise.

Objective 3: Composition Techniques
1. Rule of Thirds
The horses face is along the left line of the photo. It adds the affect that he is moving forward.
2. Backgrounds
The background isn’t distracting since the trees are all one color. I find this background makes the horse pop out and set the mood of the photo.
3. Colour
The colour of the background make the main object pop out to the viewer.
4. Space and/or Space to Move
The empty space in front of the horse shows that the horse is moving forward and implies movement.
Objective 4: Lighting (side, back, soft, hard, fill)
Types of lighting and how they contribute to the image:
The lighting in this photo is hard side lighting. It contributes to the image by creating shadows on the horse and helps the background remain one colour instead of getting distracting background shadows. It also brings attention the horses face since that’s where the light is.
Objective 5: Post Production (resize, contrast, sharpening, and others you have done)
Corrections/adjustments made:
•Used healing tool on a broken fence in the background
•Sharpened the image
•Contrast and saturation
•Resized before added to flickr
Objective 6: Critique
Analyse your photograph for strengths and areas for improvement (consider composition, lighting, exposure, overall feel, etc.)
Strength: Not distracting, good use of space, good example for lighting
Area for growth: Change focal length to make main object sharper and background more blurry.

Today, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Azerbaijan, together with the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has launched a project to support the development of a border crossing point between Azerbaijan and Georgia. The project will be focused on the Red Bridge crossing point and is financed by the European Union with a total budget of over 2 660 000 million euro.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Azerbaijani and Georgian customs services, as well as a European Union delegation, diplomatic corps, and UNDP officers from both countries.
Welcoming the participants, Mr. Aydin Aliyev, Chairperson of the State Custom Committee stressed that the project is an important measure to boost Azerbaijan’s economic efficiency, competitiveness, and innovation-based progress. Mr. Ghulam M. Isaczai, UNDP Resident Representative, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between countries and praised the project’s adherence to the UN”s Sustainable Development Goals.
The overall objective of the “Support to the development of Red Bridge Border Crossing Point between Azerbaijan and Georgia” project is to expedite the movement of goods across border between Azerbaijan and Georgia, while at the same time maintaining secure borders through the enhancement of bilateral and multilateral co-operation among the target countries and EU Member States. A key focus of the project will be sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures, as these aspects are increasingly important to both countries.
Something must have been interesting.
