Poster design for the 2010 AHC Youth Ballet performance of, "The Nutcracker." Used the 'Nutcracker' header from the 2007 poster, but embellished the design a bit more to promote the holiday season. Probably my favorite out of all the NC posters I've done.

I think this is the best shot of the night. She was very bendy!
The announcer said Flash photography and led screens were prohibited.
At intermission I remembered that my Cam has stage mode. So I turned off the flash and the led screen.... looked through the viewer and shot away. I didnt get a lot of great shots because the movement was so fast AND I didnt know what to expect having never seen the Nutcracker. I LOVED IT
I think I loved the first act with the party and easy to follow story the best. The rest was just absolutely beautiful fantasy.
My niece gave me this hand made nutcracker for Christmas a couple years ago and I always wanted to use it as a subject for a picture--maybe even use the image as a cover of a Christmas card someday. I took a few shots today to see what I could do with it.
The image was captured at ISO 100 for 1/8 second at f/2.8 with a Sony A850 camera and Sony 70-200mm lens at 70mm. I positioned the subject in front of the Christmas tree with his back facing the window to get the rim lighting on his hat and positioned a Sony HVL-F58AM remote flash camera left to light his face under his brim. Flash was triggered wirelessly with Pocket Wizards.

The Spotted Nutcracker, Eurasian Nutcracker, or just Nutcracker, (Nucifraga caryocatactes) is a passerine bird slightly larger than the Eurasian Jay. It has a much larger bill and a slimmer looking head without any crest. The feathering over its body is predominantly a chocolate brown with distinct white spots and streaks. The wings and upper tail are virtually black with a greenish-blue gloss. It is one of three species of nutcracker.

There is a slight family resemblance between this nice old guy and the Nutcracker behind him. He is cranking a "Drehorgel", a German hand-powered organ that uses a paper roll of music.

I know some people collect Nutcrackers and decorate with them for the holidays, I'm not one of them, but some of these were interesting (and pricey!). There was even one like Uncle Sam in red, white and blue. Who knew that nutcrackers can even be made into lamps? :-)
