In the town and a chap, dressed in the costume of a bygone era, is either making a note or sketching. I thought it was likely he was an employee or volunteer at the museum as most seem to dress in period costume but I am grateful to Terry [see his comment below] who tells me he is a visitor. The staff all carry radios and watch the visitors [as happens at every museum] but I had a hint of the sinister when I saw a lady, dressed in long dress, shawl, bonnet and carrying a basket over her arm. Her radio was hidden in her basket rather than merely concealed by clothing. For me, I think of that old TV series, The Prisoner' and I wanted to shout "I am not a number, I am a free man" except I am number 10639994 according to my Beamish Unlimited Pass.

Beamish Museum recreates the near past and I suspect for a lot of visitors being there evokes memories of their childhood. Well it certainly sparks a few recollections for me and I am not, in the scheme of things, that old!
