Combination of Bokeh and HDR - the motif was an electrically illuminated star hanging from our kitchen window. Shot with the small and inexpensive Nikkor 50mm at 1.8 which is hardly beatable for Bokeh. Hardly any treatment except for Photomatix and some Niksoftware Color Contrast Range.

Yesterday at the end of the day finally some free time to shoot. The weather was suitable for architecture but it could not be too far away. Also wanted to have a return to the Walterbos complex in Apeldoorn and that's a half hour drive for me. Was there a while ago with Susan Sanderus , Eddy Blokhuis and Joel Tjintjelaar . I am inspired by Joel's Frozen Music to shoot this picture.

We spotted some very cute mushrooms high up in a tree - but it was getting dark and my 300mm doesn't have IS. Still, I managed to get a couple of shots that were passably sharp.

From Afar II - X
I'm continuing my series called From Afar, based on subjects which are far from the coast. The intention is not to bring these subjects closerwith the use of a longer lens. But it's a play of subject with negative space and composition to show distance. A deeper meaning into this series would be a longing of what we want in life but not necessarily what we need. What we want sometimes takes time therefore there's a need to live with what we have. By putting it in a context of a theme, I'm forced to work with what I have to deliver and stay relevant with my vision.
I'm continually improving my workflow and processing skills. I'm probably going though stages what other black and white photographers have gone through as well. It's a slow process further more with long exposure. A discipline which can't be rushed. I'm just learning on those subtle tones, control of graduations, every change in pixels applied in small percentages. I'm just taking my own sweet time.

Aircraft: North American SNJ-6 Texan (N73RR)
Company: North American Warbirds - "Tin Lizzie"
Airport: Centennial Airport, CO (KAPA)
1945 North American SNJ-6 Texan "Tin Lizzie" registered to North American Warbirds LLC.
Even though the current name of this aircraft is "Tin Lizzie", it has had numerous names over the past. From 1976-1986 she was flown by Ralph Rina as
racer #73 "Miss Everything" and then later by Jimmy Gist as racer #59 "Blue Bayou". When Steve and Mary Dilda obtained the aircraft, they named her "Two of Hearts" in 1992 but was affectionately known as "Blue". Mary Dilda flew "Blue" or "Two of Hearts" as racer #22 in the Reno Air Races from 1996 to 2008.
This aircraft did win 2 national championships (1978 & 1984) as "Miss Everything".
I was lucky enough to get pictures of Mary Dilda piloting this aircraft at an airshow in Fayetteville, AR during Father's Day weekend 2005.

ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
On this day, which was overcast and drizzly, I decided to drive north along the coast ( Highway 1) and capture long exposure images. I stopped at a vista point near San Simeon below Hearst Castle and captured a few images. I was lucky and was able to nail the
exposure right away.
