testing the free trial version of "Silver Efex Pro"

Back in France after our trip to England, and as the beginning of our Summer is rather “thunderstormy”, and therefore not great for shooting outdoors, I will for a few days upload photographs from other recent projects undertaken on behalf of the Fondation du Patrimoine, one of the non-profit organizations I work for as a pro bono photographer.

The ruins of the Cistercian abbey of Vernaison that stand on the banks of River Isère, near the Alps in southeastern France, have been selected as a major restoration project by the so-called “Heritage Mission” of the Fondation. Although there is very little left of the abbey erected in the 1100s for nuns, the remains of the Romanesque apse, as well as some of the adjacent (and later) buildings are impressive.

Among the rubble, sculpted and carved stones await being sorted and, if possible, re-used.

A "Rule 63" version of the The Three Amigos... Las Tres Amigas!!

I used Analog Efex to give the image an aged & weathered look - reminiscent of an old Sepia photograph that had been colorized. I smoothed out the textures with Dfine and Color Efex Pro.

Update: Las Tres Amigas made it on to the Flickr Explore page (July 17, 2019) and was photo number 464 out of the 500 most interesting new photos of the day.

Almas Tower (Arabic: برج الماس‎ Diamond Tower) is a 68-storey,360 m (1,180 ft), supertall skyscraper in the Jumeirah Lake Towers Free Zone of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Construction of the office building began in early 2005 and was completed in 2009 with the installation of some remaining cladding panels at the top of the tower. The building was topped out in 2008, and became the tallest building in Dubai until 2010 when it was surpassed by Burj Khalifa

Tide is out on the sandy beach at West Wittering

There was a foggy morning mist on the horizon, and I wish I could have captured it a bit better, but...

Another ordinary sunset over the 12 apostles near Port Campbell, Victoria.

A couple of days ago I posted a similar shot with a cropping just before the sun. A few of you requested the usual wide format. Here you go!

I love old stuff, especially cameras. These three are a part of my small collection.

Left: 1948 Ansco Shur-Shot Box Camera manufactured in Binghamton, N.Y.

Center: Spartus 35: The Spartus 35 and Spartus 35 F are a series of 35mm film Viewfinder cameras made by Spartus and then Herold Mfg co. in Chicago, USA., and produced between 1947-1954.

Right: Kodak #1 Kodak Jr. Model A : No.1 Autographic Kodak Jr. is a medium format film folding bed camera made by Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, N.Y., USA and produced between 1914-27.

These cameras are sitting on three early 1900's Binney & Smith "An-Du-Septic Dustless Crayon" tins.

Wild evening up at Webster Park.

A bit of Nik software Glamour Glow added to the phone shot.

The paint jobs are always good, but my favorite thing about the Solstice Parade is the expressions of the riders. I got this one just perfect with her eyes closed, slight smile, and hair blowing back from the wind.

Today we got the first significant snow of the winter here in the extreme western end of Virginia. Since the roads were too treacherous to get out on, I decided to photograph what was handy...in this case, the mail boxes in front of my house.

I actually took this back on my trip to Colorado in late August of 2010.

I was driving from Colorado Springs south to the Great Sand Dune National Park and spotted this side road from the highway. The clouds seemed lined up for a nice shot. Love what the polarizer did to this image.

It's funny how when I first worked through my photos from that trip, that I didn't find this one worth posting. Oh, the subjectivity of creativity. More on that soon enough...
