It's been over two months since Tonya and I shot together. She's working two jobs and going to college. This was sooooo last minute, but this being our fourth shoot together we pretty much know how to "get in" and "get out."

*** www.silentgphotography.com - In celebration of the 4th of July weekend use COUPON CODE: SILENTG4TH for 25% off any TWO of my prints (including this one and several more from my Colorado trip) from now until midnight on Monday! The guys over at SmugMug make it so easy! ***

Big shock. The pot of gold...is in downtown Aspen. Shot over a snowfield this is another from the top of Richmond Ridge where we were getting rained on, but we had to risk getting the gear soaked for moments like these.

Happy Fourth!

A colour-popped satsuma for this week's Macro Mondays' "Citrus" theme. I know colour-popping was very popular (and over used) about 10 years ago and I don't really like that style very much but thought it was the best of the bunch that I prepared for this week's theme.

12 image focus stack processed in Helicon Focus. Dust and fibre removal in Photoshop. Conversion to mono in Silver Efex Pro. Colour popping using masks in Photoshop. Sharpened in Lightroom.

One of my cosplay buddies, Becky-Taka, in her version of Pennywise from "IT." I used a MagMod "MagBeam" with a cyan gel and "orb" light stencils on my flash to create the light pattern around her. Image also processed with Nik Software's Analog Efex Pro - Classic Camera and Color Efex Pro filters to really bump up the creep factor in this image.

I have another version of this image that has been run through Color Efex Pro's Infrared filter that I will be posting a bit later. Becky has seen both versions and loved them!!

UPDATE: Wow!! Nice surprise to wake up to. Becky's photo made it on to Flickr's Explore page. Thank you for all the likes and kind words. Danke et Merci Beaucoup!!

Couldn't sleep this morning, (Thu 18th June), so I got up very early, (for me !), sat down and did this !

NB:

The tree image is not mine, it's from a magazine exercise from years ago.

The sky is one of Luminar 4's replacements.

The lightning is from Luminar 4's Augmented Sky section ... as are the birds.

The rain is a free download from the excellent Gary McIntyre (YouTube).

Hence the title ... An Imaginary View

Three images from our trip to red river gorge. In my excitement to go, I left my camera gear neatly packed at home, traveling only with the large telephoto... After my tears dried of. I used the one wide angel camera that remained in my pocket: the iPhone. The hikers were just as much fun wit the phone.

From Wiki:

"The Red River Gorge is a canyon system on the Red River in east-central Kentucky. It

lies within the Daniel Boone National Forest and has been subsequently designated as the Red River Gorge Geological Area, an area of around 29,000 acres. It has been designated a National Natural Landmark and National Archaeological District, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 13,379-acre Clifty Wilderness Area lies entirely within the geological area in the Red River Gorge.

This intricate canyon system features an abundance of high sandstone cliffs, rock shelters, waterfalls, and natural bridges. There are more than 100 natural sandstone arches in the Red River Gorge Geological Area. The multitude of sandstone and cliff-lines have helped this area become one of the world's top rock climbing destinations and is home to the Red River Gorge Climbers' Coalition."

A 'screw city' lit by two LED lights placed to the right hand side of the 'city'. The screws (tallest was 1.5 inches so that, with reflection, the whole is less than 3" tall) were placed on a black, gloss floor tile and imaged with a focus stack of 20 frames. These images were combined in Helicon Focus (option C) and then processed in Photoshop to clone out the many dust specks attracted to the floor tile. I then converted the image to mono using Silver Efex Pro (Fine Art Process) and applied a film simulation to boost the contrast. Finally, in Lightroom, I straightened the image and boosted the global clarity by +11 and applied sharpeneing.

Many thanks to everyone who views, faves and comments on this image and the others in my photostream. HMM to you all!

Second piece from a little mini series I have been working on. Taking the speedlight work from a couple of months back and manipulating in Nik Software, Lightroom and Photoshop. Currently 2 of 3.

Crafers, South Australia

The river Adda unfolds her beauty meandering at the feet of the hills; here the river widens and creates a series of coves (one of them lays just at the dead center of the frame, beyond the leftmost trees on the bank).

The postprocessing of this exposure bracketing has been rather longish and difficult, since the single shots looked pretty dull - but I knew that there should be more than met the eye, so I struggled hard to bring to life the real view, or, if you prefer, my memories of that moment.

(Almost) every shot has a story to tell - a soul of her own, if you like -, this is not breaking news for a photographer. But I am sometimes struck by the awareness that every shot holds back many more untold tales. They lay in an alien space and time, possibilities still to be actualized - or in the past, like already told tales which you have simply missed. I have taken photos at this same spot, but today is a fresh story - and I can feel the untold tales waiting their turn in the secret bowels of the river. Some of them are almost surfacing to light - like the pebbles just under the surface of the water - and I can feel them whispering in the peaceful silence of the morning. Soon I will be gone, taking with me - in my camera and in my very soul - today's tale. My own tale. Then a fresh one will begin unfolding.

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

The world is awakening after a long wintry sleep - spring is blooming, a reviving radiance is in the air.

The trees are burgeoning - up to the tip of their thinnest twigs they are putting forth innumerable buds, weaving anew their new beautiful, energy-producing dresses.

The slow flow of the river is telling tales of distant snows, memories of an alien, wild winter - and I know that even up there, on the sides of a small lake nestled between high peaks, the saxifrages are starting their slow work again - grinding the bare stones down to more hospitable soil.

This enchanted little world is awakening from a serene night, at last, as the sun is peering down the ridge of the hill. And my soul is awakening too, singing a speechless song.

Couple of weathered dogs watching life go by on a Bangkok Klong (canal).

A clickin' image of the tiny town of Troutdale. The town reinvented itself from a one gas station, biker bar, and a few rundown old buildings, to this now quaint facade. I think it's on par with what the townspeople of Bend, Oregon did to rejuvenate their town, by turning it into a tourist destination. A community of forward thinking; well done!

I have no clue as to what happened to the top of this image (tilted), must of happened during the upload. Oh well...

Have a great week, my friends : )

My first real break from work since Christmas and it's raining, typical!

Taken at the Rolling Stones concert at Du Arena in Abu Dhabi. the lights were focussed on the crowd i captured this from behind the crowd, bottom left the guy holds his beer as if to say "cheers" to the Band.

A model locomotive by Hornby entitled 'Queen Elizabeth II'. This was a Hornby Collectors' Club special edition model from a few years ago. I chose this to be a little different as I suspect there will be a large number of chess pieces, playing cards, coins and stamps this week. The portion of the locomotive shown is exactly 3" long.
