Six of Rajasthan's hill forts have made it to Unesco's World Heritage List: Chittorgarh Fort, Kumbhalgarh Fort (Rajsamand), Ranthambore Fort (Sawai Madhopur), Jaisalmer Fort, Amber Fort (Jaipur) and Gagron Fort (Jhalawar).

The second-longest continuous wall on the planet protects a hidden secret in the deserts of India.

The wall that surrounds the ancient fort of Kumbhalgarh is one of the best-kept secrets in India, and perhaps the world. Protecting a massive fort that contains over 300 ancient temples, the wall was constructed half a millennium ago in tandem with Kumbhalgarh Fort itself.

Often referred to as Kumbhalgarh Wall or simply as Kumbhalgarh Fort as a whole, the wall is perhaps best known by its most sensational — and fitting — name: The Great Wall of India. This is appropriate, as the wall extends over 36 Kilometers around the perimeter of the fort, making it the second-longest continuous wall on the planet after the far more well-known Great Wall of China.

Its anonymity is mystifying, since this is no crumbling line of bricks fascinating only by description. The wall is massive, and breathtakingly majestic as it snakes through valleys and along mountaintops, again bearing a striking resemblance to its cousin in China. At its widest sections, the wall is 15 meters thick, and beautifully masoned with thousands of stone bricks and decorative flourishes along the top, making this just as attractive as a tourist destination as it once was effective as a deterrent.

A small dainty bee-eater with a slender black face mask and throat band.

Head patterning and length of central tail feathers varies across range; Arabian birds have a stunning electric-blue face and throat, African birds have the longest tail feathers, and South Asian birds have a warm orangish crown.

Juveniles are duller than adults and lack the long tail feathers. In flight, note the dark edge along the lower border of the wings.

Flies gracefully as it catches insects and other prey. Inhabits open woodlands, semideserts, fields, farmlands, and around sparse human habitation.

Some populations show seasonal movements. Calls are a series of gentle liquid trills.

Kumbhalgarh Fort - UNESCO Heritage Site, Rajasthan by Nityananda Mukherjee

Kumbhalgarh Fort is a Mewar fortress on the westerly range of Aravalli Hills, in the Rajsamand district near Udaipur of Rajasthan state in western India. It is a World Heritage Site included in Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Built during the course of the 15th century by Rana Kumbha, Kumbhalgarh is also the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, the great king and warrior of Mewar. Occupied until the late 19th century, the fort is now open to the public and is spectacularly lit for a few minutes each evening. Kumbalgarh is situated 82 km northwest of Udaipur by road. It is the most important fort in Mewar after Chittaurgarh.

In 2013, at the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Kumbhalgarh Fort, along with five other forts of Rajasthan, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the group Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

With a wall over 38 km long, the fort is the second largest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China and the second largest fort in Rajasthan after Chittorgarh Fort.

One cannot miss out the Lava monastery when going to Lava. It is built on a four acre piece of land and is home to hundreds of monks who preach their beliefs there.

The monastery is old, built in 1980s and architecturally beautiful. It looks Tibetan in style and has various prayer halls, lawns, sitting areas and a huge Buddha statue. The monastery is well maintained.

Clicked during kolkata- loleygaon-lava-rishyap-kalimpong-darjeeling trip in November 2015

it was cloudy for last 3-4 days during our stay at lava-rishap which are at greater heights.. We could not able to see the peaks from 7200 feet but at kalimpong, we saw the first glimpse
