Apart from starry nights, I have always been fascinated by big machines. As a passionate skier and a regular hiker on the ski slopes at night, I highly appreciate what the drivers of the snowcats do for us during their night shifts. This guy however, did much more for us during this cold night.
He found us fogged out at nightfall on the highest point of the ski area and generously offered us a ride down to our car. Shortly after he left, it cleared again and we hiked up a second time.
Towards the end of the now perfectly clear shooting session, the snowcat passed again and the driver was surprised to find us back on the slopes. It did not need much persuasion to make him pose for this image and after we had finished the shot, he gave us another ride down...

I was lucky to have moonrise and auroras at the same time. There had been no aurora alerts and probability for them was very low, so they came as a big and pleasant surprise!

Sadly Snibston colliery museum is no longer open to the public. The loco shed is one of the oldest of its kind in the UK. The site is being developed for new housing, though it should be preserved as a reminder of the mining history in this part of the country.
A view at the Henrichshütte steel plant in Hattingen, Germany, which is part of the industrial culture route and open once per month after dark for photographers and other visitor to enjoy.
When I first started knitting this Nightshift Shawl I was very unsure about the colours. I really don't like purple very much and it seemed the more I knit the more purple there was. I was just getting ready to rip it all apart when a Flickr friend of mine said he loved it as purple was the colour for National Epilepsy Awareness Day, which just happened to be March 26. At that moment the shawl's fate was sealed. Not only would I finish it, I would finish it, and also have it blocked and ready to wear for today in support of Paul, Mrs F. and their son Marc, who lives daily with epilepsy. Now please excuse me, I need to go and put on a purple shawl.
