Night life in a big city

The swarm materialized suddenly as I walked along the forlorn path. A light emitted from the agglomerate, seemingly generated by their swift, graithly movements. As they descended from the black ether a buzzing became discernible that, as they approached, slowly revealed itself to be more of a cacophony of electric voices. The entity, for the glowing orbs commingled into a near solid mass, blocked my path yet simultaneously appeared unaware of my presence.

What did they want with me? I dared not cogitate on the matter; neither did I move or think or do anything at all in the desperate hope that they would simply pass over me unawares. Would that I took the advice of the old woman at the inn! Did she not warn me not to walk this path on a gibbous mooned night?

This is actually a reflection in the dark that was projected onto our tv set!

When you let your eyes adapt to the night, you start seeing millions of stars and it’s amazing. It really feels like flying on a spaceship into the cosmos… of wait… that’s what we do ;) You always tend to focus on Earth when you take pictures from the International Space Station, because it’s right there in front of you when you look out the window, in all its splendour and diversity, but there’s also a lot of beauty in the cosmos itself, it’s just harder to see (and to photograph) at first.

The young lady looks quite unimpressed here - perhaps at her boyfriends decision to 'just wait a few minutes to see whats on the front of the Caledonian' before dinner may have had something to do with it!!

Night Shining Clouds or Noctilucent Clouds

☾ “I have noticed that when all the lights are on, people tend to talk about what they are doing – their outer lives.

Sitting round in candlelight or firelight, people start to talk about how they are feeling – their inner lives. They speak subjectively, they argue less, there are longer pauses.

To sit alone without any electric light is curiously creative. I have my best ideas at dawn or at nightfall, but not if I switch on the lights – then I start thinking about projects, deadlines, demands, and the shadows and shapes of the house become objects, not suggestions, things that need to done, not a background to thought.”

Dragon at Night.

Dragon is a free-flying spacecraft designed to deliver both cargo and people to orbiting destinations. Dragon made history in 2012 when it became the first commercial spacecraft in history to deliver cargo to the International Space Station and safely return cargo to Earth, a feat previously achieved only by governments. It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth. Currently Dragon carries cargo to space, but it was designed from the beginning to carry humans. Under an agreement with NASA, SpaceX is now developing the refinements that will enable Dragon to fly crew. Dragon's first manned test flight is expected to take place in 2-3 years.
