Living in Saint Michel L'Observatoire means there are (reasonably) dark skies and plenty of opportunities for night time photography.
I suppose that night time photography is a subset of low key photography, however getting a night time photograph to look 'right' involves more than a high ISO or a long exposure.
The whole point about night photography is that it involves photographs taken in the dark - if the ISO is too high or the exposure too long, the result begins to look quite artificial and more like a standard day time photograph.
This photo is of the night sky looking north from Saint Michel L'Observatoire. Viewed on a reflective screen in a brightly lit room, the stars and much of the detail become invisible. To get the best from this type of photography, the viewer needs to be in a similar environment to the one that the photograph was taken in - low ambient light.

Another SS Dicky shot....can I ever get enough of her? I don't think so...
She is still there...even after midnight. This is SS Dicky at 1.30 in the early morning. Exposed for 209 sec and I have again neglected the rule of thirds
For those photographers interested, I have written a Free Photo Guide for this location

Night Spins - A fun and creative take on a beautiful winter night scene on the eastern plains of Colorado. The Abbott Church sits alone on a small hill outside Denver. While I was there I was able to photograph the green comet over the church. You can see the comet on the left of the church. I added my own fun "Spin" on the night sky so it would better mimic the ripples in the snow.
This is the 2nd of 4 images from this night you will see.

Cayucos Pier at twilight. The sunset was amazing with orange clouds in the West and Magenta in the East. That thick dark area that lays on the ocean's horizon looks like a storm front ready to move in.
I had hopes of galaxy time lapse, but those clouds were too thick and didn't thin out by twilight. Thus a long day of driving and photo/video came to an end.
Here's the link to the video of this road trip:
