‘Down on the night train, I feel the starlight steal away.
Use up a lifetime looking for the break of day.’
‘Out of the night burning with light
Train shining black, I won't look back, life is running
Hoping some day someone will say
I got it made, pull up the shade, let the sun in’
Back in the 80s, I had countless nighttime rides behind these locomotives. There was something so soothing about hearing that familiar engine sound on a chilly night.
I’ve used the ‘panning’ technique, moving the camera to track the subject’s motion.

This is the beautiful Temecula, California City Hall at night. Lot's of night life sounds going on around this photo from the many restaurants around us. Keeping the local authorities busy while this photo was being exposed.

I went to the Contemporary Hotel to shoot the fireworks. My bad - I didn't pay attention to the schedule and fireworks started 2 hours later than I thought and I had to leave so no fireworks. On the up side the monorails were running a heavy schedule. This caused a train to come to a complete stop right in front of me. I was able to grab this non-blurry, non-grainy shot at night.
Pohara Beach, Golden Bay looking out into the darkness as the sunset fades. The nearby Port Tarakohe Marina lights up part of the view but the dark blue and stars were starting to come out. For the Through the Lens theme week 15 of Night. I am rather behind on my TTL themes.
Chinese and Korean Buffet restaurant, late night, very rough freehand shot walking home from cinema.

one could say it’s nice to have a dog. but in the end, most walks are just about letting him empty his bowels. makes perfect sense. he has to. still, there’s this dissonance. the coat, the posture, the stride – all elegant, almost refined. the dog, small but proud. two silhouettes blending perfectly into the scene. and yet, one is just walking the other so he can take a dump. i find that funny.
borne. night. palma.
He gave me his coat and the inspiration to try harder...

A couple of improvised night shots, taken on the way home from visiting dad, as I was exiting the railway station at Haymarket.
I sat the camera on a handy, short post that housed the button for the pedestrian crossing to steady it for a longer shot, then pointed it towards these brightly-lit restaurants with their vibrant blue and yellow colours and signs standing in contrast to the city night around them.
Another hot and humid night in Bay Saint Louis/Waveland, MS. In the distance, a couple was gigging and wading through the colorful lights of the Silver Slipper Casino.
