A big thank you to Steve Montana for shooting some nibs up close macro style for me. I've found a suitcase full of about 1000 nozzles which date back to 1988 and probably beyond. Every single nozzle tells a story of what we did, and I like that.

Former Abellio ADL Enviro 200
Service 81
Brentwood High Street

Two very contrasting vehicles were photographed at Poynter's Coaches, Wye on September 25th 1997. Nearest the camera is Leyland National 11351A/1R UVW 868R. Despite sounding like a former Eastern National vehicle it was new to West Yorkshire and originally registered RYG 769R. It was acquired from NIBS, Wickford, and still wears their attractive yellow and white livery. Beyond is RJI 6569 a Kassbohrer Setra S228DT. More details of this vehicle would help my records if anyone can help?

Nibs was going to be euthanized, but C.A.R.E.S. quickly stepped in to rescue her.
This elderly girl is quiet and keeps to herself. Nibs is shy, but we think she'll come out her shell when she's in a new home. She likes forehead scritches and soft blankets. She doesn't like other cats in her space very much. A shelter is quite chaotic for a quiet old girl like Nibs, and we hope to find her a new adoptive or foster home for her to stay for her remaining years. Will yours be the one?
Please visit www.carescatshelter.com/adopt/ for more information on adopting a C.A.R.E.S. cat.

Another day, another 495 - was that Southern National's only route into the town ? I should have kept all those timetable leaflets and books ....
I had to scrape a bit of mould off this one, so it's not perfect, but it's still a nice shot - I can't remember now if I asked the driver to move it there, or if he was parked there anyway. While NBC green wasn't really my thing, it was certainly better than what came next for this RE - the allover yellow of NIBS (Nelson's) at Wickford, who ran it for nearly 9 years after SNOC sold it in 1987.

Takes me back to my junior school days in the 1950s with dip pens and the ink monitor filling up the ink wells in our desks from a big bottle.
Richard Esterbrook, an English Quaker, started manufacturing steel pens in 1858 in America, with a factory established in Great Britain in 1896. The packet states the nibs cost 7.5 old pence (2.5 new pence equals 6 old pence) including purchase tax. Purchase tax was introduced in Britain in 1940, levied on the wholesale value of luxury goods in order to reduce wastage of raw materials. It lasted until 1973 until Britain joined the then European Economic Community when it was replaced by VAT. I suspect this packet dates from the 1940s/1950s.
