The sad hulk of Avonside 0-4-0 saddle tank 'Askham Hall' (Works No.1772 built in 1917) at Threlkeld Quarry, remarkably still bearing its maker's and Railway Executive identity plates for permitted working over BR metals. It is not widely known that this diminutive saddle tank flouted the BR steam ban in June 1971, when its owner, the National Coal Board, wished to transfer it from Solway Colliery at Workington to William Loco Shed at Whitehaven. It was provided with a brake van by BR at Workington and simply worked the eight miles around the Solway coast, without any diesel pilot locomotive, but presumably with a BR pilot man on the footplate. Its Railway Executive registration plate, which it still bears, was clearly convincing enough for the local railway management!

vanilla information

Vanilla comes from the dried and cured fruits (pods) of the orchid Vanilla planifolia. This plant grows in the tropical forests of Mexico and Central and northern South America but is now rare in the wild due to habitat reduction and overexploitation ...

Vanilla is one of the world’s most popular spices, and the second-most expensive after saffron.

This multi-million dollar industry is all down to Edmond Albius (1829–80), a 12-year-old slave from the Réunion Island en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Réunion His ingenious thinking enabled artificial pollination on a mass scale, which in turn enabled the industry that we know today. However, Edmond was never compensated for his contribution, dying practically penniless, and to this day is still relatively unknown ...

Lilium is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large, prominent flowers. They comprise a genus of about 110 species in the lily family Liliaceae. Most species are native to the temperate northern hemisphere, though their range extends into the northern subtropics.

Lilies form an important group of flowering garden plants and are important in culture and literature in much of the world. A few species are sometimes grown or harvested for the edible bulbs.

The species in genus Lilium are true lilies. Many other plants have "lily" in their common names, some of which are quite unrelated to true lilies.

"March For Our Lives" was a reaction to the horrible gun violence that took place on February 14, 2018, when a tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida killed 17 individuals. Thousands upon thousands in cities across the nation took to the streets on this day to participate in a mass protest. Their objective?....to demand that our representatives enact stricter gun legislation in Congress to stop mass shootings, especially in our public schools.

A young lady at the rally held this sign that read "Am I Next??' Students who attend school daily are frightened and concerned that their school may be next.

I was playing with the camera and it took this shot while getting it set. I know it's not the most flattering but I really like how it turned out. It's just me.
