I had surgery on my ACL two months ago. Stuck in my mother's basement for two weeks. Experiencing life without the ability to be mobile was terrible. There were limitations on my ability to do basic things, such as using the washroom. The first couple days after my surgery, I could not sit down on the toilet.
Something you barely think about every day was causing me insane pain. I was struggling with things I usually encounter on a normal day and never think about on a regular basis . My experience has brought to my attention the struggles people with disabilities have every day. I learned from my short experience that society is not designed to accommodate people with physical impairments.
During my rehabilitation, I had to go to my university campus. Around campus, you can see automatic door openers everywhere. When I needed to use those automatic door opener, I realized the poorly designed locations for those buttons. For a few weeks, I experienced life without my legs properly functioning, and it was mentally exhausting to cope with my limitations.
After this experience, I want to advocate for people with physical disabilities rights to have built to accommodated their needs. I could start by complaining to my university about the poorly designed buttons. I acknowledge I cannot change every building, but at least I can do something.
As for this image. It was photographed a month after my surgery. I just started to be able to walk with a limp. I was going to take a picture with my boyfriend which was going to be inspired by the movie Signs. But it ended up looking like a cheesy family picture. This image is an outtake. Something I did not planned on making. I don't really like this picture but it's a stamp of my experience.
Four tires and a spare. A beer bottle for a gas cap, and rust galore. Ready for the discerning buyer to drive off the lot. I wonder if you can run a truck on beer. I do pretty well by it. It's one of the basic food groups in my book.

Mid Summer and barely a person in sight. Bliss. A three frame stitched panorama of Cuttagee Beach on the NSW Far South Coast. Recent flooding of local rivers has washed a lot of tree branches into the sea, to become stranded on beaches. Branch teepees abound along this stretch of coast, but no sign of the builders today. Imaged with an Industar 10 (FED10) 50mm f3.5 collapsible lens @ f8. Looking north towards Bermagui, with Gulaga (Mt Dromedary) featuring on the skyline.
Noticed a young magellanic penguin calling out for attention at Magdalena Island, Chile. He did not seem too happy and calling for its mother? These particular penguins dig out soil and create their nests.
This shot was taken during my most recent session in the Adda river, along with Those unspoken words between us and Yes, yes... Look up!.
It was an unusual morning, full of surprises. The feast of colours occurred almost an hour before the official time for sunrise; I assume that it was due to the clouds being at a very high altitude. It was lucky that I was ready for that surprise time, albeit still walking towards the chattering banks of the river.
When I took this exposure bracketing, the early colourful moment was at its climaxing point; I had just captured an interesting dialogue between the sky and the humble gold of the buttercups in a nearby field, practically on the other side of the towpath (Those unspoken words between us). There was no time to move to another spot; all I could do was walk to the other side of the towpath, position my tripod, and shoot two or three exposure bracketings, one of which badly blurred (hurry, hurry up!). And alas, the heavenly fires were gone. After that fleeting, glorious explosion of rosy and purple light, the mood of the day progressed rather linearly towards a quiet morning bathed in a soft, veiled light that, combined with the mists from the river, lent the place a somehow ethereal mood. More photos about this evolution are to come in due time - which means in a long time, given my current state of physical and mental exhaustion.
It is always extremely satisfying to capture a sunrise, even when it is unsatisfying from a photographic standpoint. At the bare minimum, it means that I have had a little peaceful time in a nice location. You cannot really foresee what a new sunrise is going to offer. I remember slow, lazy, almost endless sunrises, and some gray, dull ones. I have also experienced some fleeting sunrises, lasting the time one needs to think, "oh, wow...". This one was of this kind, and ahead of schedule on top of that. I doubt anyone notified the sun about the proper time of sunrise that morning, lol. It might have easily been missed. I was lucky, and this is the best shot I have taken at that sunrise proper. I am not entirely satisfied with it, but I suppose I should be happy with what I got since I risked getting nothing at all...

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-2.0/-1.0/0/+1.0/+2.0 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot). Along the journey - post-processing always is a journey of discovery to me - I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic. It revealed many fine details in the clouds that previously had looked like a rather amorphous glow. I desaturated this layer a lot since colours didn't need any boost - indeed, I was struggling to keep that colourful sky at bay.
As usual, I gave the finishing touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4 and played a bit with dodging and burning.

Looks like i'll be moving into my dads house for about 2 months, here in a week or two. He's going to be starting chemo, and needs someone to take care of him... Fucking cancer, I just rid myself of it, and now it comes back to plague someone that I love. Id stab cancer in the eye if I could.
I'll have to leave my job to go take care of him... I'm hoping to have my position when I get back. *sigh* I love my job. I love my dad more tho...
I wonder how i can keep the house going, the bills, the blah blah blah shit that really shouldn't matter at a time like this.
I'm completely overwhelmed.

This maybe my favorite shot at Lincoln Park and there is no post processing! It really needs to be viewed large.
This is a candid snapshot but somehow it seems to possess all the unconventional tangible and intangible photographic and non-photographic attributes, in my mind: natural framing, unruly composition yet balanced, messy branches and leaves but so attractive, natural lighting, atmosphere, humanity, landscape, in focus and blur, near and far, detail and softness, and a subject matter that's eternal: love and companionship. Of course, it lacks color and contrast, but these are non-essential elements. I tried boosting saturation and contrast, but that only destroyed the "air" and took the life out of this picture.
Came to realize more and more that photography is first and foremost about seeing. And my new favorite aperture: f/5 :)
