IOM, in coordination with partners and the government of Mozambique, has been on the ground since the Cyclone Chino hit. Rapid needs assessments identified the most urgent requirements of affected communities. As part of its initial emergency support, IOM distributed Shelter and Non-Food Item (NFI) kits to effected communities. These kits included essential items such as kitchen sets, mosquito nets, sleeping mats, NFI bags, and tarpaulins. Awareness-raising sessions on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) are reaching hundreds, ensuring the safety and dignity of all.

This is one of my favorite pictures. After I graduated high school, I realized I needed to do something meaningful and give back to others. I chose to work at Camp Massawippi, which is a summer camp that specializes in adaptations for children and youth with physical disabilities, among other exceptionalities. I met this young girl at the camp and actually went on to become her shadow. Because she has special needs, caring for her and ensuring that she has fun and is fed appropriately is more difficult that taking care of an average child. For example, she is non-verbal and uses yes/no responses and I have had to learn her responses, informally.
