Good morning. After posting two series of immature Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa) dragonflies, of which one can be found here...

I figured it was long overdue to post a few images of mature ones with the familiar wing markings. But while the photo above is of a fully mature male, the two in the comments section haven't quite fully matured yet as they haven't developed the common white waxy tail of the species. And so you'll know, these shots were taken at "the pond across the street" and this is one of the few dragonflies that can be still found/seen this late in the season.

Between Parkes and Narromine, NSW, an area called Alectown. 'Southern Cross' an Australian brand of windmill. The tank needs a bit of work though.
I like the idea of Okarito using their old boat house and pier for their information center. Improvements on the interior needs work, but one would expect that the contents are sparse due to the center being open 24 hours. One would also guess that this might leave the center vulnerable to theft.
The train station in India was a hive of activity. I loved that this man found a clear space to sit and read his newspaper amonst the bustling travelers.

Mannavanur, Kodaikanal
This hiker has gone well beyond the end of the Blackett's Ridge Trail, but won't go any further unless he's able to sprout wings... he's just steps away from a quick trip to eternity. On the left is Thimble Peak, a familiar landmark that can be seen from many spots around Tucson.
Note that the saguaros are far less dense in this photo than the previous one, and there are very few above my vantage point... Except in ideal growing conditions (getting enough sun & water) they usually don't live much above about 4700'.
I was away the last several days, in the backcountry of the high Sierra Nevada wilderness doing what I like best: being alone and making photographs. It was good to get lost in silence, clean (albeit thin) air, brilliant stars, and untouched wilderness. It was a soulful experience. But let's talk photo... This is one of the Kearsarge Lakes, which are in a basin below 11,832 ft Kearsarge Pass. (Hiking up there with 50lbs of gear was not easy for my old bones) I was camping on the shore, which didn't leave me with much an excuse not to get out of the snug warmth of my sleeping bag to brave the sub-freezing cold and snap a few photos at sunrise. Most of you know I'm more a black and white enthusiast, but on occasion color expresses the moment better. Don't worry, thrilling black and white photos will be forthcoming. After all, I was literally walking in the footsteps of Ansel Adams. Until then, enjoy a little color. _0164216
iphone4 photo of grasshopper taken in Kingdom Hall parking lot on my way into meeting. The technique used was DEFINITLY inspired by the master of creature photography on flickr, Andrea Boiani, thanks for the inspiration Andrea.
For me there are multiple stories being told with this photo. Primarily it is the story of an incredible creation with intricate detail, and it should make anyone marvel at the 'Artist' who created this. You have to just wonder how so many people can be blinded as to giving credit where it is due. Simple 'cause and effect' logic makes you wonder about the 'Cause' when you see this effect.
THE OTHER STORY is the amazing iphone4. I just MARVEL at the fact that I can get a photo like this with the cam on my phone that is with me everywhere, all the time. Who needs a $2500 SLR that weighs a ton, is bulky, takes years to learn how to use, intimidates / scares away your subjects, etc., when you can take pix like this with your phone? And it's not just the hardware, it's the software people at Apple I give credit to that makes that camera work SO great. The camera on the iphone 4 is MUCH better than the previous iphones. As a dedicated photographer I can still hardly believe what a quality camera they have packed into that little phone. Apple, I love you. But I love the Hopper creator more, hehehe.
3rd story- trivial, but well, we like trivia sometimes don't we. While checking EXIF data after posting this noticed the unique time photo was taken 10am (almost) on 10/10/10
