At the start of the First World War in 1914 the British Government needed effective communications with frontline troops and replaced messengers on horses with despatch riders on motorcycles. Several models were tested for suitability, and the Triumph Model H was selected. With the rear wheel driven by a belt, the Model H was fitted with a 499 cc air-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine. It was also the first Triumph not to be fitted with pedals, so was a true motorcycle.
Engine differences from the previous Model A included a single cam wheel with two cams replacing separate cam wheels for the inlet and exhaust valve, and new design of cylinder casting. Valve head diameter was enlarged, and the valves were spaced further apart. The Model H was fitted with a Sturmey-Archer three-speed countershaft gearbox operated by a hand gear change lever.
More than 30,000 Triumph Model H motorcycles had been produced by the end of the war in 1918. The Triumph Engineering Co Ltd had been using the advertising slogan Trusty Triumph since 1910 and the Model H became known as 'The Trusty' as it proved reliable in wartime conditions, despite a weakness in the front fork spring. This was prone to break on rough ground, so despatch riders would strap a leather belt around it as a precaution.
This 1915 Triumph Model H and beautiful wicker sidecar is one of more than 1,000 British machines on display in the National Motorcycle Museum.
Apparently for seasonal reasons, Columbia has recently seen more trains hauling grain to the plants in Monetta, SC. Saturday's version of 50V crosses over the Congaree River not long after the local P75 returned to Columbia across this same bridge.

I really need to get back into this whole posting thing.
I have been busy though. I've been clearing some space on my hard drive, going through all my photos, deleting stuff; going through my magazines, catching up on tutorials I meant to do, watching reruns of Lost from right back at the very first episode....I LOVE Lost, but unfortunately not getting much time for photography...partly due to the awful weather, partly due to my new camera having a fault! It would randomly turn off when I pressed the shutter sometimes. Luckily the fault developed early on and I have now got a new new camera, so you may see some of its pictures soon (as soon as I take some that is).
It's an E-PL3, i'm sticking with the M43s system, and I have to say, apart from that little hiccup, I love it! A lot like the E-PL1 but faster, lighter, and slimmer. Well worth the upgrade.
Anyway, the above is the result of one of my tutorials. I actually took this back in April on my trip to a local National Trust Home....Cotehele House.

Needing an image for 52 Frames using Shallow Depth of Field, and having an extra day to do this as we've delayed going away in the campervan until tomorrow, I turned to my lovely Magnolia stellata.
On checking, it has featured in my 365 every year since I started in 2013, so why break the habit of what feels like a lifetime!

Common year-round feeder visitor. Just when it seems winter will never end, here he is.
The long exposures were picking up a number of shooting stars which are discernable from aircraft as they don't have the dotted trail of the plane's ID lights.
