in my world today. Life can seem endlessly gray at times. When the rain doesn't stop, in fact it just pours, I try to concentrate on the good things in life.
It's a crazy world these days and not always easy to put aside the negative and concentrate on the positive.
I hope you all are having a very positive day and there's some color and beauty in your world.

Keep those flower pictures coming - we need them here! The snowplow just went down the road again, and a very fine snow is falling [I know it's worse to the south of here].
This shot was taken 5 days ago, when some milder air caused fogginess, but it does show the general color of things around here.
It’s probably time I started writing stories about my train pictures in miniature.
I do prefer O scale or 1/48, 1/4 scale, for its realism over smaller scales in relation to light and overall reaction to depth of field. Smaller scale models can be every bit as detailed, although my o scale models are approaching fully functional appliances such as cut levers and AAR couplers, air hoses and the like. Simulation is the name of the game; I am comfortable with 1/4 scale.
Doing 1/32 would be better of course but the extreme limitations of available prototypes and O scale is already too large and heavy. This is a load of work. Locomotives like this Sofue customization weighs in about 10lbs. Moving these modules, in this case 10 feet by 2 feet deep. Put your back into it! Add another 15% in size and weight, no thanks. It’s all about trade offs and O scale lines up nicely.
Apparently for seasonal reasons, Columbia has recently seen more trains hauling grain to the plants in Monetta, SC. Saturday's version of 50V crosses over the Congaree River not long after the local P75 returned to Columbia across this same bridge.

Incredible is the world in front of our eyes that we rarely see. I don't know what this flower is, I just know that it is awesome. At center is a cavern of unimaginable grace, with sparkling pillars of light enticing you to visit and a spiral centerpiece sinking into the darkness. It would be a literal field day for a Fairy Speleologist to venture deep within.

This kid was the most adorable thing ever. He was about 6 years old and was already driving better than any of the adults there ...

Grey skies color our days!
I really need some color to help me get throught this week!
A recent purchase, the model was in rough shape. All of the valve gear needed work, many parts needed to be re-soldered. Made by Akane Models on March 11, 1963. Distributed in the USA by Gem Models. I still have some minor details for fix, like the coupler bar on the pilot and a loose step that I missed the first time around.

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. It is still a painful day for so many and one that seems like it was just yesterday. On that day, we saw the worst of humanity but we also saw the absolute finest, through the selfless acts of heroism from the firefighters, rescue workers and police and also from the generosity and love that poured in from people all around the world. All of that is what fills me with hope when I reflect on that day... a day we must never forget.
On that day, our entire extended family was leaving for a 2 week trip to Italy. I was getting ready early that morning when my Mom called to ask if I had the TV on. I told her no and I proceeded to talk about how excited I was for our trip and that I was almost ready to head to the airport. She told me I needed to go turn the TV on....
Where were you when you heard about 9/11?
