France. Alpes. Département de l'Isère (38). Massif des Écrins. Vallée du Vénéon. Photo prise lors d'une randonnée en aller-retour effectuée en solo, au départ de la Bérarde, jusqu'au Refuge de Temple Écrins. C'était mon 17ème jour de rando sur les 18 jours où j'ai pu randonner lors de notre séjour alpin de 3 semaines pendant l'été 2022.
La photo a été prise en remontant le Vénéon sur sa rive droite, un peu au nord du Refuge du Carrelet.
Cette randonnée s'est déroulée dans un cadre absolument grandiose, foisonnant de sommets de plus de 3000m, dont certains très célèbres. Les 2 sommets que j'ai trouvés les plus photogéniques sont la Tête du Chéret (que j'ai choisie de mettre à l'honneur sur cette photo) et Les Bans (dont le Sommet Sud culmine à 3669m), qui domine le superbe Glacier de la Pilatte, où le Vénéon prend sa source.
Par contre, cette journée fut très éprouvante pour moi physiquement, et cela pour plusieurs raisons. D'abord parce que j'étais diminué par le COVID, avec le dos courbatu. Ensuite parce qu'il faisait chaud. Et enfin parce que la montée finale au Refuge de Temple Écrins était particulièrement raide et éprouvante (450m de dénivelé concentrés sur seulement 2km, soit une pente moyenne de plus de 20%). Mais grâce à la beauté des lieux et avec l'aide d'une boisson énergisante qui donne des ailes, j'ai réussi à monter jusqu'au refuge. Et cerise sur le gâteau, en plus de la magnifique vue panoramique sur le plan incliné du refuge, j'ai eu une 2ème récompense pour mes efforts, en ayant la chance de pouvoir observer une marmotte pendant mon pique-nique, et cela malgré la forte fréquentation des lieux. 🙏
NB : Je ne sais pas si vous voyez ce que je veux dire mais les 2 pentes de devant, le sentier et le cours d'eau forment presque une espèce de X. 😉

In 2020, someone who needed an outlet (escape?) during the lockdown and the pandemic's other disruptions decided to plant a garden in the parking strip on the northeast corner of N.E. 17th Avenue and N.E. Weidler Street in Portland.
At some point he stopped tending it. Nobody else has stepped in to replace him. Since there's a vacant lot on that corner and businesses on two of the three other corners, it's unlikely any neighbor will adopt it.
Yet the flowers continue doing what plants do provided they're not crowded out by weeds or deprived of the necessary amount of water. I hope they survive the impending, completely unnecessary curb replacement project.

Sometimes very little is needed. A simple look to something ordinary. Maybe it will remind something to us and make us to smile. An extravaganza is nice and great, but sometimes a quiet melancholy is more. It's closer to ourselves and it tells a story that only we can understand.
Incredible is the world in front of our eyes that we rarely see. I don't know what this flower is, I just know that it is awesome. At center is a cavern of unimaginable grace, with sparkling pillars of light enticing you to visit and a spiral centerpiece sinking into the darkness. It would be a literal field day for a Fairy Speleologist to venture deep within.

Just had a birthday back on 21 Sept and for a present, I got to drive a couple of very nice cars, an Audi R8 and a Maserati Grantourismo on the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. My daughter Brianne, took some nice pics that I included in the first comment. While I was there, a racing school was practicing next to us. Be it horses, motorcycles or cars I just can't resist a good pan shot. I watched and shot the cars and couldn't help thinking about when I was a kid going the New York Car Show.
My dad would take us to the car show; I always visited the Racing School booths and would get brochures. It was an unaffordable dream
but I always loved the thought. I never pursued racing unless you count my 32 mile commute back and forth to work on I-80 but I've always enjoyed going fast, very fast at times. So I've been thinking - Maybe I should see if they have an "Old Fart" class. :) After all, when I got my Fiat it came with a day long track experience and on the Auto-cross course, out of about 80 young stud types I came in third. I was proud of myself...
