For the houses, not for the photographer!

This is a darkroom print

There are some times when chasing a train, or driving anywhere for that matter, where you come across a scene that makes up immediately come to a halt and say, "Yeah, I need to shoot that."

With just enough cached map data to actually backtrack away from Chapman (CH Cabin) and up towards Louisa, I finally regained cell service and also came across this pair of bridges. As soon as I started to drive across the single lane bridge, I said to myself, "Yeah, I need to shoot that."

The question I had at the time was why a one lane bridge? The answer came a week later when editing photos from the trip and talking with friends. The narrow bridge was actually built as a railroad bridge in 1883 for the Chatteroi Railway. Eventually, the C&O came to own the line, and a newer, stronger bridge was needed, thus the rail bridge to the right was constructed in 1914. Rather than dismantle a very usable bridge, the old bridge was converted to a road bridge instead.

The wait for CSX C007 wasn't terribly long, but well worth it. A very unique location to be sure.

Needed some Ell on my stream~ Miss her loads <3

Now off to bed so I'll be in the mood to shoot something a little more interesting tomorrow...

Sometimes very little is needed. A simple look to something ordinary. Maybe it will remind something to us and make us to smile. An extravaganza is nice and great, but sometimes a quiet melancholy is more. It's closer to ourselves and it tells a story that only we can understand.

Happy Smile on Saturday!

In celebration of cannabis culture: Happy 420! =)

Incredible is the world in front of our eyes that we rarely see. I don't know what this flower is, I just know that it is awesome. At center is a cavern of unimaginable grace, with sparkling pillars of light enticing you to visit and a spiral centerpiece sinking into the darkness. It would be a literal field day for a Fairy Speleologist to venture deep within.

Just had a birthday back on 21 Sept and for a present, I got to drive a couple of very nice cars, an Audi R8 and a Maserati Grantourismo on the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. My daughter Brianne, took some nice pics that I included in the first comment. While I was there, a racing school was practicing next to us. Be it horses, motorcycles or cars I just can't resist a good pan shot. I watched and shot the cars and couldn't help thinking about when I was a kid going the New York Car Show.

My dad would take us to the car show; I always visited the Racing School booths and would get brochures. It was an unaffordable dream

but I always loved the thought. I never pursued racing unless you count my 32 mile commute back and forth to work on I-80 but I've always enjoyed going fast, very fast at times. So I've been thinking - Maybe I should see if they have an "Old Fart" class. :) After all, when I got my Fiat it came with a day long track experience and on the Auto-cross course, out of about 80 young stud types I came in third. I was proud of myself...

Textures: boccacino - thanks!!!

I needed a break from studying so I set out to create a very specific image. The result was something entirely different, but to me that is what's so beautiful about creative expression. Intent is important when creating a photo but being open to new possibilities, to truly living in the moment and reacting fluidly to what is around you...Responding to the forces that surround you while you're creating - that is just as special.

This photo is rooted in two thoughts...The first is from one of my favourite movies, Chronicles of Narnia (I read the book a long time ago, I'm sure it's amazing but the visuals in the movie are incredible <3)...The image has to do with the scene where the little girl meets Mr. Tumnus and learns that winter has lasted for a long time. So that connects to the whimsical aspect of the photo. The second part is that this looks like an ad for something. It has that element of sexuality and smoking. The materialism that is symbolized represents how obsessive we have become over consumer goods, over trivial nonsense. The two girls face the same direction, and one even looks straight at the camera. The earth behind them is warm, green and lush but there is no way of knowing whether or not they are aware of this. They are huddling together for warmth. Ultimately, they are immersed in the lifeless cold of winter but there is always hope for summer and what summer represents :)

BTS shots are on my blog

Need a few police cars to sort this one out !
