We had a busy weekend with lots of company and actives. While Della enjoyed all the visitors I think she was happy this morning to take up her usual position on the couch in the sun and keep an eye out for squirrels. Although I must admit she didn't last long before she took a little nap.

What is better than one cool looking tanager? Two!

Golden-naped Tanager

Small, stunning tanager mostly turquoise blue with a buffy vent. Look for black face and small buffy-orange patch on rear crown. Sexes alike. Usually found in pairs, often following a mixed-species flock in the canopy. An Andean species, found in subtropical forests, edges, and gardens. Visits fruit feeders.

Beo (wolf) takes an afternoon nap.

Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary

Gwinnett County (Lilburn), Georgia, USA.

11 May 2024.

***************

▶ "Gray wolves (Canis lupus) used to be found throughout the Arctic, through southern Mexico, northern Africa, and southern Asia, but due to habitat destruction and various other factors, they are now found only in a few areas of the contiguous US, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and Eurasia. They are one of the most wide-ranging land animals living in a variety of habitats from the tundra, prairie, and even arid landscapes.

Our two wolves came to us from a facility in Minnesota. Beo is the black male wolf. He was born on April 25th, 2023. Aurora is the lighter-colored female and was born on April 29th, 2023. They arrived at Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary when they were about six weeks old and introduced to their exhibit full-time in August of 2023, when they were about four months old.

Beo and Aurora are technically Alaskan Tundra wolves (Canis lupus tundrarum), a subspecies of gray wolves considered endangered."

Our kitty Frodo loves the sunroom! There are large windows on three sides which overlook the backyard where he can observe all the bird and squirrel activity.

However, in the summertime, as seen here, is favorite pastime is napping on one of the huge cardboard boxes placed next to an open window. Most of the curtains are drawn to help keep down the summer heat, but we keep the curtains pulled back at this window.

black-naped tern lovers. Nope I didn't see them "do it" 😔

This sea lion was having some type of dream and his flipping was moving while he slept.

Three members of our local whitetail deer herd decided to settle down for a nap on our lawn, while the remaining seven members of the herd settled down in groups of two or three at various places on our lawn. It was a beautiful scene. Fortunately these three were fairly close to the house and I was able to photograph them through a window. Backyard wildlife.

Now is my turn napping ….

Grey Seal pup. Taken from a respectful distance - he/she didn't open his/her eyes at all whilst we were there.

The colony now stretches from Blakeney, past Horsey and beyond Winterton. It has grown significantly in the last few years.

This seal is starting to lose his white baby fur, but is still very cute!

Mr Bumblebee is taking a nap! And so that he doesn't get wet, he has found a place where he is protected from the rain! Other insects also take a midday nap, where they sit down on beautiful blossoms and leaves and sometimes linger for half an hour or more! They know exactly how to make their lives a little easier....
