My friends and I were going back to their home from Monterey Bay aquarium, he stopped the car and asked me if I wanted to take a shot of such; of course, I was delighted to do so.. You see, he knew we, the people love taking pictures would take the opportunity to shoot anything comes in sight, at least that's what I usually do, regardless.

Oh, I could use an afternoon nap right now. But, I just can't doze off no matter how sleepy I am. :-((

The Golden-naped Tanager is one of many colorful members of the speciose genus Tangara. The plumage is mostly turquoise or violet blue (depending on the subspecies) with tawny flanks and belly and a black face mask. On the hindcrown, some subspecies have a golden patch, giving rise to the English name for the species. In other subspecies, this patch is reddish, reflecting the specific epithet ruficervix ("red nape"). The species is found in the central and northern Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Across this distribution, the species varies in plumage, and six subspecies are recognized. The Golden-naped Tanager is omnivorous and eats arthropods, fruit, Müllerian bodies, and nectar. Like many tanagers, they can be found in pairs or small groups but also take part in interspecific flocks. doi.org/10.2173/bow.gontan1.01

A small (15-17 cms) blue colored bird that stands out in its environment and easy to spot. The birds are found in semi / evergreen forests and wooded areas and within them often sighted flying near streams catching the flies in the area. Its habitat is usually green or brown and this is so easy to spot, but very difficult to get close as it is a very shy bird.

The bird is a resident of the Indian subcontinent and found much of the country. The male in this picture sports this rich blue plumage while the female is pale blue with brown colored wings. We sighted a couple of families nesting in our most recent trip. I am not sure, but I think the incubation may have been delayed due to unseasonal rains and heavy gusts of winds. We sighted this bird 14 days ago in the same position. Several Paradise Flycatcher nests which we sighted 2 weeks ago, cannot be found and we sighted one that has fallen to the ground.

The Bamboo plants in the forest act as magnets for many birds - they support several varieties of insects and hence many flycatchers and small birds are often found around that plant / tree. We sighted most of the nests next to them.

Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

212) Black-Naped Monarch

Black-Naped Monarch, Hypothymis azurea, Kelicap Ranting

The black-naped monarch breeds across tropical southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia and the Philippines. This species is usually found in thick forests and other well-wooded habitats. The black-naped monarch has short legs and sits very upright whilst perched prominently, like a shrike. It is insectivorous, often hunting by flycatching. When alarmed or alert, the nape feathers are raised into a pointed crest. They will join mixed-species foraging flocks and are active in the understory of the canopy. The breeding season is March to August and the nest is neat cup placed in a fork. The nest is built by the female while the male guards. The typical clutch is of three eggs with both parents incubate and feed the young which hatch after about 12 days.

The swans at Leeds Castle are so used to people that they are comfortable enough to nap even when you’re poking a camera at them lol. I wanted to get a backlit shot of a swan with the water behind to make the beautiful bokeh but I never expected a sleepy cutie to behave so well!!

Thanks for viewing and HSoS 😀

The chestnut-naped forktail (Enicurus ruficapillus) is a species of bird in the flycatcher and chat family Muscicapidae. The species is monotypic, having no subspecies. It is found in Sundaland, in southern Burma and Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Sumatra and Borneo. The species is not migratory.

This Western Grebe chick is catching a few ZZZs on Mom/Dad's back. The cool green water of Santa Margarita Lake sets them off perfectly.

Nothing like napping upside down!

This one chose the under-side of a leaf of the Jade plant.

The Blue-naped Chlorophonia has an extensive but disjunct circum-Amazon range, in the Atlantic Forest of southeast Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northeast Argentina, the Andes from Bolivia to Venezuela, and the northern coastal mountains of Venezuela, as well as the Pantepui region of southern Venezuela, northernmost Brazil, and adjacent Guyana. The male has the head, throat and breast bright green, the collar, central back and rump bright blue, a bright yellow breast and belly, and the wings and tail are green, while the female is overall duller, being mainly green above with blue on the ocular area and collar, and the throat to breast is green, becoming dull greenish yellow over the rest of the underparts. There is some degree of subspecific variation, at least in males. doi.org/10.2173/bow.blnchl1.01

This beauty was photographed at Sítio Espinheiro Negro. Wishing a Peaceful bokeh Wednesday.
