Chalcothraupis ruficervix ruficervix -Prévost & Des Murs, 1842- (Golden-naped tanager / Tangara nuquirrufa)

The golden-naped tanager is found in South America from Colombia to Bolivia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest. Six subspecies are recognised.

Golden-naped tanagers have plumage similar to those of the metallic-green tanager, the swallow tanager and the blue-and-black tanager as adults of all three species are primarily blue with black facial masking, however, the golden-naped tanager is the only primarily blue tanager with a golden or reddish crown patch or nape.

As the common name of Pale-naped Brushfinch suggests, it was once placed in the Finches family (Fringillidae), however it is now considered to belong to the New World Sparrows. This is a berry-eating species, found at higher elevations. This individual was seen near Parque Nacional Chingaza east of Bogota, Colombia, South America.

A Double-crested Cormorant takes a nap near the warm pavement of the parking lot.

Photographed at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, this Golden-naped Tanager (Chalcothraupis ruficervix) perched briefly on a clean, sunlit branch, revealing its turquoise body, dark wings and the warm golden patch at the nape. The soft background created natural separation without distraction, allowing the color transitions and feather detail to stand out. The even illumination helped maintain accurate tones while avoiding the typical harsh contrasts found in broken forest light.

From a technical standpoint, the challenge was waiting for the bird to step into consistent light and angle slightly toward the lens. Its alert posture provided depth across the head and chest, and the long focal length rendered the background smooth while holding crisp detail on the subject. Timing was essential, as this species moves quickly through midlevel foliage. For me, this frame reflects the value of patience and positioning in montane forest photography.

I just had to share this with you. I shot this thru my bedroom window. Dickens, my blind goose, found her way to Otto's bed I keep outside on the porch and settled in for a little nap. I just thought it was so cute.

If you can see this on a large screen, you can see her eye and the blue where it should be a brown iris and black pupil. I think she has a bit of sight, but not good at all. She walks into posts all the time and she will walk right over food and water bowls all the time. But she still manages to get around and seems very content in my back yard. Of course I have a pen that she and Goldie my duck go into for safety at night.

I do frequently have to hose duck and goose poop off the cement but it's a small price to pay

Daily Dog Challenge: Close

My friends and I were going back to their home from Monterey Bay aquarium, he stopped the car and asked me if I wanted to take a shot of such; of course, I was delighted to do so.. You see, he knew we, the people love taking pictures would take the opportunity to shoot anything comes in sight, at least that's what I usually do, regardless.

Oh, I could use an afternoon nap right now. But, I just can't doze off no matter how sleepy I am. :-((

“Mama says to tell all her Flickr friends that the big internet company has still not fixed our connection. I think Mama has cried about that a lot, and misses seeing all your great photos and commenting on them. I hope they will fix it. We all miss Everybear. too! We all hope we will be back to normal one day but I am not sure about it. Mama has gone to the doctor about her stomach troubles so we are all supposed to take a nap. I promised Mama. We all send our love! Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!”

212) Black-Naped Monarch

Black-Naped Monarch, Hypothymis azurea, Kelicap Ranting

The black-naped monarch breeds across tropical southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia and the Philippines. This species is usually found in thick forests and other well-wooded habitats. The black-naped monarch has short legs and sits very upright whilst perched prominently, like a shrike. It is insectivorous, often hunting by flycatching. When alarmed or alert, the nape feathers are raised into a pointed crest. They will join mixed-species foraging flocks and are active in the understory of the canopy. The breeding season is March to August and the nest is neat cup placed in a fork. The nest is built by the female while the male guards. The typical clutch is of three eggs with both parents incubate and feed the young which hatch after about 12 days.

The Blue-naped Chlorophonia has an extensive but disjunct circum-Amazon range, in the Atlantic Forest of southeast Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northeast Argentina, the Andes from Bolivia to Venezuela, and the northern coastal mountains of Venezuela, as well as the Pantepui region of southern Venezuela, northernmost Brazil, and adjacent Guyana. The male has the head, throat and breast bright green, the collar, central back and rump bright blue, a bright yellow breast and belly, and the wings and tail are green, while the female is overall duller, being mainly green above with blue on the ocular area and collar, and the throat to breast is green, becoming dull greenish yellow over the rest of the underparts. There is some degree of subspecific variation, at least in males. doi.org/10.2173/bow.blnchl1.01

The swans at Leeds Castle are so used to people that they are comfortable enough to nap even when you’re poking a camera at them lol. I wanted to get a backlit shot of a swan with the water behind to make the beautiful bokeh but I never expected a sleepy cutie to behave so well!!

Thanks for viewing and HSoS 😀
