The N2S-5 is a biplane used as a military primary training aircraft during WWII. At least 8,584 of these aircraft were built in the United States in the 1930's and 1940's. Originally built by Stearman Aircraft which became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934, this model of airfract is widely known simply as the "Stearman," or "Kaydet." These aircraft served as the primary trainer for the USN throughought WWII. After the Second World War thousands of suplus aircraft were sold on to the civilian market and in the immediate post-war years they became very poular as crop dusters, sport planes and for aerobatic and wing walking use at air shows.

Cropping this picture was very difficult for me because I wanted to leave the shadow in, while leaving enough 'white space' in front of the aircraft. This is the result.

This Boeing B75N1 Stearman was built for the US Navy in 1942 as a model N2S-3 Bu.07609. After WWII it was declared surplus and in 1947 it was converted to a model B75N1 and became a crop duster. In 1991 it came to the Netherlands as "Old Crow" and in 2006 it was restored to todays immaculate condition. It operates with "The Storyteller" at Lelystad, Holland. July 2010

One of the "guest stars" of a Heritage Flight Museum Fly Day. Always a treat when Mr. Hubner, USMC Retired shows up and takes a "Yellow Peril" WWII-era Stearman out to fly.

Please enjoy this photo from 21 June 2014's Heritage Flight Museum (HFM) Fly Day! My photographic theme for this event was black & white - something I'll reprise at a 2015 Fly Day.
