Ok, the last of the shots from my initial test run of the new iphone the other night. Well, the last that I'm going to share at the moment. This is one of the few moments when it focused properly despite it being a quick shot, taken backhanded as I walked past.

Cheers for all the lovely words on my recent posts peeps, I'll be back a little later to catch up on it all.

I was driving by this field thinking of how good it looked but no real subject in it. Then lo & behold here were these hot air balloons coming over!

Strange, but they looked just like some I saw at a hot air balloon festival in Decatur, Alabama a couple of years ago. Hmmm, how did they get here? ;-)

Fly Away

I woke to a wind swirling the curtains light and dark

and the birds twittering on the roofs, I lay cold

in the early light in my room high over London.

What fear was it that made the wind sound like a fire

so that I got up and looked out half-asleep

at the calm rows of street lights fading far below?

Without fire

Only the wind blew.

But in the dream I woke from, you

came running through the traffic, tugging me, clinging

to my elbow, your eyes spoke

what I could not grasp –

Nothing, if you were here!

The wind of the early quiet

merges slowly now with a thousand rolling wheels.

The lights are out, the air is loud.

It is an ordinary January day.

My shadow, do you hear the streets?

Are you at my heels? Are you here?

And I throw back the sheets.

My dear friend, Don Briggs, is going in for a medical procedure tomorrow, and my thoughts and prayers have been with him. Don has been more helpful to me than most anyone I've ever known, and has greatly influenced my time here on Flickr. When I looked for a pic to choose to post today, this was the one, because it made me think about how we influence others, and what long "shadows" we cast as we do it!

Some folks give out of a leftover mentality. When Don gives, he makes sure it's the best, not just something he knows is mediocre. He makes his friends feel cherished, because by embracing life the way he does, he makes us all feel like we have more value than we often feel like we do.

I will probably never be the kind of photographer Don has been, in spite of the fantastic DSLR he's given me, but I don't know when I've ever FELT that i was worthy of having the best kind of stuff before! Don has seen value in what I do, even though it's not up to his level of expertise, and he's gone out of his way to make things easier for me. Life can be hard sometimes, but a friend like this man can almost make you forget it.

Thank you, Don, for being a wonderful Flickr contact, a mentor, and a dear friend. I love you dearly and hope that all of the good you've done comes back to you tomorrow, and you will have many more comfortable years to photograph waterfalls, bridges, sculptures and tulip fields, and continue putting the rest of us to shame in the process! All the best and we'll look forward to seeing you post again soon!

f-zer0 photowalk, Nea Alikarnassos, 20-May-2008

Post-processed with Poladroid.

Sorry for my absence, but things haven't been great for me lately. I'd been very busy, with no time to photograph anything, or even deal with older photos sitting in my archive (except for the occasional poladroid).

What's more, last Friday, my little son (4yo) hurt his forearm badly while playing, breaking both bones (ulna & radius). He'll be wearing a cast for six weeks at least...

I hope I'll eventually make the time amidst this mess, to photograph a bit, in order to take my mind off things. In time, I'll find my way to your photostreams as well, see the world through your eyes: gives a whole new perspective.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Benched in Southern California

spotted yesterday in Tsawwassen.

E sapete cosa ho visto in quello specchio?

Ah ah ah!

It his 'officially' Dec 1st in New Zealand at the moment...

BUT it's all officially Nov 30th in the UK....

And on this day in 1979....

Pink Floyd released their classic album The Wall...

So that inspired me to pull out this old image...

AND my shadow from the shadows to share with you...

AND I am going to do my best to have this as a kick starter....

For my annual December Diary!!!

This year inspired by things that inspired me and make me smile...

Most probably with a little help from my Shadow and Ted... and inspired by a bit of music and (maybe some more Beer and Cider with Ted's influence) and other things along the way...!

Promise I'll be back again soon! xox

Oh and thanks to you Jiffy... for the gentle nudge and encouragement to come back for another round!!! xox

I'm SO sorry I've not managed to catch up with you all over the past week...

I've had a lot of distractions both at work and at home...

And some major deadlines to meet over the past couple of weeks too...

Which has meant I've just not had the opportunity to get online...

I keep saying "I promise I'll catch up soon!"

But unfortunately circumstance has continued to keep me away.

I'll try and sneak a bit of time online at work today....

Other I PROMISE I'll be back tomorrow night for a proper session!!! %-)

Today it's 'Music Monday'...

And I've got as REAL treat lined up tonight....

Have been waiting since last July when I bought the tickets....

We are going to see Roger Waters tonight in concert...

Performing his fantastic stage show extravaganza 'The Wall'

Gosh.... you can't IMAGINE how EXCITED I am!!!

(Well some of you might! LOL!) %-)

I saw Pink Floyd in concert in 1988 and Roger Waters in 2007.

Two of the best concerts I've EVER been to!

The guy is an absolute LEGEND!!! %-)

Here's a couple of my favourites from the album...

9/11 Remembering the Victims and the Families of those who lost their lives.

These photos I took in January this year of the Memorial Wall and Statue of Liberty in front of New York New York Casino in Las Vegas.... My Shadow and I spent quite a bit of time here reading all the tributes to the brave Firemen who lost their lives in their brave efforts to save others.

Kōtoku-in is a Buddhist temple of the Jōdo shū sect. Made in 1252. Shot with an 8mm fisheye. This image is better viewed: LARGE

"The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a monumental outdoor bronze statue of Amitābha Buddha located at the Kōtoku-in Temple. The bronze statue probably dates from 1252. The statue was gilded. There are still traces of gold leaf near the statue's ears.

The hall it was located in was destroyed by a storm in 1334, was rebuilt, and was damaged by yet another storm in 1369, and was rebuilt yet again. The last building housing the statue was washed away in the tsunami of September 20th, 1498. Since then, the Great Buddha has stood in the open air.

The statue is approximately 13.35 meters tall and weighs approximately 93 tons. The statue is hollow, and visitors can view the interior.

The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 destroyed the base the statue sits upon, but the base was repaired in 1925. Repairs to the statue were carried out in 1960-1961, when the neck was strengthened and measures were taken to protect it from earthquakes." - wikipedia
