Die Grundfarbe der Ödlandschrecken ist marmoriertes Graubraun.

Sie passen ihre Farbe, aber auch die Musterung, im Laufe ihrer Entwicklung an den Untergrund an.

Ihre Farbe kann dabei von einem hellen Grau bis fast schwarz reichen, auch ocker- und rotbraune Färbungen sind häufig zu finden.

One of two surviving medieval gates at Sandwich, seen from across the bridge over the River Stour. In the medieval period the gatehouse faced the broad River Stour, at the lower end of Sandwich Haven. This was used as a muster point for English fleets during the early medieval period. The gateway was modified with gun ports at ground level after a French raid in the 14th century left parts of the town damaged. The bridge is a relatively modern addition, constructed after the Haven became silted up at the end of the 19th century.

At first glance the very young Kelpie sheep dog appears to be doing her job mustering the sheep. However, she is actually blocking them from crossing the bridge, much to the frustration of my brother on the other side who, with the help of his other much more experienced dogs, was trying to get them across. The sheep did eventually get across and on to the woolshed where they were awaiting crutching, which I described in my previous photo. All was forgiven and my brother maintains that young Jezebel (her name) shows great promise. Not that morning though.
