Photo is from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, in Acadia National Park. Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the East Coast and is supposed to be the place where the sunrise is first visible in the United States.
Watching the sunrise from Cadillac was a moving experience, it's quite popular and often foggy so on clear days there's a lot of people heading up the mountain to see it, and it doesn't disappoint. Cadillac commands ocean views in multiple directions and on this morning all were shifting fields of fog and clouds, with ships and marker lights moving in and out until at the appointed time the sun starts peeking over the eastern horizon, igniting the clouds and eliciting cheers from the crowd.
The foreground is Mount Dorr, Cadllac's neighbor.
This is a multi-shot horizontal panorama, shortened a bit to make it sorta work in Flickr. I've got several additional more detailed views I'll share soon.

One of this area's more exotic-looking insects put in an appearance at my patio lights a few weeks back: this is a Spotted-winged Antlion, related to the little lacewings I see much more regularly at my lights, as well as the mantisflies, which you'll see here soon. I've only seen maybe three or four of these ever, and this is the first I've seen of this species. Here is the other I've seen.
You might be more familiar with their larval form, known to some as a "doodlebug" due to the meandering trails they make in the sand as they search for a good place to build their pit trap.
This was around 1.5" from head to wing tips.

Haha, who am I kidding. As much as I'd like to do that, I have too much of a more immediate photo backlog to deal with, like Iceland, a nature outing two weeks ago, recent bird photos, Australia photos from two years ago, and too many more to count. But I do have a BUNCH of moth photos, so I may try to slip some in this month under that premise. ;-)
This is the lovely moth you saw closer to the beginning of this month, photographed on the brick where I found him before I brought him in for the photoshoot. He must not have been too disturbed by his temporary abduction, as I spotted him the next night back up on the brick.

......or in my case, where to lay on the ground....
I crawled army-style on my stomach, about 30 feet through mud and water, to get a close up, low angle view of this Dunlin and a few of his buddies. Carrying the 500mm + extender + camera, plus wearing thick and heavy waders with steel shank boots, was physically exhausting. While I was hand-holding the rig, I was wishing I had my skimmer pod. I’m a bit sore, but it was worth it!
These Dunlin are really cute, and I enjoyed watching them chase the waves back and forth, especially when a splash caught them off guard. Good times!
