I found these at my mother's house after she died. Uncle Jack was her brother but I didn't know him very well. My mother had been disowned for marrying a divorced protestant.
sitting in Detroit Airport, it's 89 degrees outside, and the NWA clerk announces that the air conditioner on the plane is broken before the flight back to NYC, so they're going to try and fix it. Meanwhile, the steel tube sitting in the sun is heating up into a blast furnace, for over an hour, and then the NWA clerk says that "the plane will cool off when we're airborne."

judging by what's on the blogs, look for an upcoming Pixar movie on ancient warriors. They didn't have air conditioning, either.

As Oblivion Rains Down
This piece was inspired by the album "30 Seconds to Mars" by the band 30 Seconds to Mars. Throughout the CD they constantly refer to space and the need to escape. But, it was two lines, from two different songs that really brought this image together: "Under the burning sun, I take a look around, Imagine if this all came down" from "Oblivion" and the lines: "Look at the red red changes in the sky, Look at the separation in the border line, But don't look at everything here inside, And be afraid, afraid to speak your mind" from "Echelon". From those words this image came forth into my mind and it is my deication to the band and the inspiration they provide for me.
What your seeing here in this piece is a man watching the world he knew crash down upon him from the heavens above. He stands a top his car as the blazing hot meteors fall into the earth and he is helpless to change the fate that is crashing down around him.
In this piece we realize that we deal with what we are dealt in the best possible way that we can.

This art journal page was created as the first real page in my journal to kick it off right and shake off some of the dust from using nothing but pencil for so many years.
This is the finished version of a page I shared earlier. I added more details in acrylic paint, doodled in the flowers and butterflies with multiliner and journaled loosely around all the designs. It's a bit tough to read it now that it's done but at the time that wasn't the point. The point was to free myself of some nervous energy I have toward jumping in and creating loosely and openly.
I prefer the one with the black face but it is old and scratched and sometimes stops. That's why I have two.
My parents were great chucker-outers so I have no childhood stuff. But somehow I ended up with this that belonged to my grandfather. Everyone (not only the family) called my grandmother and grandfather 'Mother' and 'Father' so that's how come the caption.
