I've deciced to do the 75 day sketch challenge. Not promising to do it in 75 days, but promising to do 75 sketches INK ONLY. Adding colour later as too much like what I normally do, and the hard bit is rendering the tone with the ink and I was to get a handle on that. Sitting in a coffee shop in south King Street Newtown drawing what was opposite. Copic Multiliner.

I was really stuck for a musical instrument to draw. I even went to Vinnies in case they had a child's one or an ornament. No. Came home and was going to draw a book about a musicologist an d I spotted my Saraswati statue. She is holding a musical instrument called a VINA and sitting on a lotus.
I drew this with Copic Multiliner, then watercolour. I did a bit a Prismacolour scribble across the screen of the phone for a resist. The silver parts are done with a silver Pitt Pen, and I used a white biro for the writing.

5/20/12, Mountaineers Club, Magnuson Park, Seattle. My first sketchcrawl with the Seattle Urban Sketchers. A fun event and good turnout, despite the rain. Copic Multiliner SP pen, watercolor.
His name is Neil, because he came to my mind when I was listening to the soundtrack to Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. He only took about 4-5 hours from start to finish, and I'm REALLY happy with how it turned out. The iPhone camera quality doesn't do it justice--the details on the argyle sweater-vest are great.
I'm trying to branch out and make my own style instead of drawing *just* anime-style artwork. I think this is a step in the right direction.
Now I just need a decent scanner. EDIT: Ordered one today! Woohoo!
Neil Patrick Harris has such a beautiful singing voice. It's a shame he's gay... *swoons*

Out sketching today and it was 22 degrees- and in August! Beautiful day - just perfect. We went to Darling Harbour near the Maritime Museum. This is my first drawing. Not easy drawing boats. I didn't time this one.

I am currently reading a biography of Diana Mosely, Nancy Mitford's sister. I am amazed to realise how much of Diana was used in writing about Linda, a character in this book. I drew this one because the cover was a bit brighter and anyway it is my favourite book.

I was testing an inexpensive brand of watercolour set. Checking what these are like to see if I can recommend them for students in my sketching class who want inexpensive paints. Apart from the fact that you get what you pay for, I think they'll be OK.

I sketched this lovely couple in pencil, inked the image with a Copic multiliner Pen (.35 nib) then used my new Copic markers to color.
For the skin tones, I chose three fleshy colors, filled in the whole face with the lightest, then added shading with the two darker shades.
I worked on card stock and found it to be a great surface for markers. The colors bleed through, but they bleed through every paper I've used, including Fabriano artistico 140 lb watercolor paper. I don't have marker paper, but I don't know that I'd like working on the slick, shiny surface. I have a whole ream of card stock to use up, so I'll be sticking with that for the time being.
