Probably not a practical idea to have an entryway or mudroom with a white tiled floor or walls. Still, I liked the way my daughter's boots looked with all that white.
My sweet sweet boy saved from the side of a busy road. The humans are smitten, the girl cats can see him though the mudroom door and let's say they're....cautious??! ;)
Next to Guelph Dolime. I actually went in the back mudroom, and there was a working microwave with a flashing clock on a table.
An image showing the kitchen, the desk area, the mudroom and distant views of the family room. Shot during an overcast, stormy fall day. Popped a flash off the ceiling (AD200 at 1/8th power) just to the left of the dishwasher, but blended all ambient frames for the majority of this. Missed the child safety latch on the cabinet under the sink! Back to PS...
Another shot of JAXson in his little bit of late afternoon sunlight which streamed through the windows in the mudroom after a day of rain and clouds....Happy Caturday!
365: The 2018 Edition-Door
This is the door into our Breezeway/Mudroom. I am so grateful we have this area since it connects the house to the garage. It's such a blessing when it's cold and snowing.
This mudroom addition creates a perfect dropping ground before you enter the new family room. A slate floor is forgiving of muddy and wet feet and makes for easy clean up. Lots of light with transoms into the interior family room and exterior adds function to beautiful form. Photography: John Umberger; Real Images

I saw this moment...JAXson sitting by the mudroom door in a puddle of bright light ...it was a perfect moment. Love the feathering of his whiskers. (SOOC) cy365 day274 'off prompt'
Taking advantage of a tight space, this mudroom was tucked between the garage and kitchen and acts as a true dropping zone for coats, gear, groceries and anything else you cannot make in one trip. A useful prep sink takes care of extra cleanup and a porcelain ceramic floor makes for easy cleanup of the space. Built in cabinets, open shelving , painted bead board and bench seat give it a custom look. Photography: John Umberger; Real Images
Molly's studio is finished.
It's the first time we've ever paid anyone to do renovations, and it was quite different from doing it ourselves in a number of ways, to wit:
In the first place, it's finished. Things I do myself never seem to get quite finished or at least to feel finished.
Second, it looks much better than when we do renovations ourselves. This lead carpenter was really good, really traditional, really just the best person we could have hoped for. He actually seemed to enjoy working with challenging materials like cracked, banged-up 140-year-old siding and the leaky, 90-year-old soapstone sink.
Third, we had people in the house five or six days a week since August 17. They were really nice people, but still, that's quite a change for someone as reclusive as I am.
Fourth, it's a bright, warm, draft-free room. That's the first one of those we've ever had.
Fifth, there's more satisfaction in doing the work yourself, but that said, there's a great deal of satisfaction in seeing that the work is done, finished, finis, over, kaput.
In other news, Rabbit christened the new room yesterday by peeing from one side to the other. I guess she had to make it her own. Rabbit's a good dog who has her own ideas about how to do things.
We're taking December off and then the same guys are coming back to replace all our rotting leaky windows with new Pellas.
There's a "before" picture in a comment below.
Had a hard time with this shot. Very small space, so this is wider than I would have liked. Camera was outside the mudroom doorway, in the kitchen, as far back as I could go without the doorframe blocking too much of the built-in. (Really not liking the sloping floor, door, and bench). Looking at it now, bet I could have panned right a smidge and gone to 24 or 25mm...lose the doorframe on the left...yeah.
Also, couldn't get any sort of lighting going with flash that looked even remotely natural. So, this is the result of bits and pieces blended together from multiple frames, both flashed and ambient. Wish I had gotten a cleaner, more defined floor exposure. Shot for a builder.
Appreciate all feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

Just like the looks of this mudroom, especially the floor.
I almost steepped on this little one yesterday. She was hanging out in the mudroom. Just a wee baby.

Moving and rewiring these took way longer than it should've. Blown in insulation is a pain in the ass.
This is a ghost sign. The spots on the letters are where adhesive had been applied. They stayed put after the vinyl letters were removed. It seemed lonely, so I made a photo of it.
Simple. Classic. Refined. Three lockers provide storage for three kids. This photo required extensive staging.
They love each other. And for some reason when they're in the mudroom they actually pay attention to us.
I am changing this side too. I am trying to "pull" the room together. I wasn't settled with how I had before, so I am still working on tweaking it and bring my fave little vintage things from around the house.

This door is on a screened porch....our favorite room in the house during summer months. These tiles are actually quite small, perhaps 3/4" square, mounted directly on window glass, clear Lexell silicone adhesive....no grout used.
