A child on the Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan splashes in a mud puddle created by recent rain.
Photo was taken from a second story window at the apartment my wife and I rent. I used a point and shoot camera and had it zoomed almost to capacity. Therefore the picture is pixelated.
I love cross country. It is an amazing sport, for so many reasons... One of those is the absolute glory of the struggle. It's such a brilliant, inspiring thing to watch people pushing themselves to the limits of their endurance and their speed, especially at the finish. Most racers are in agony at the end, but they run through the agony, because they want to finish, and when they're done, they want to know they ran as fast as possible, as hard as they could.
I find that beautiful.
On an unrelated note, I feel bad. This is my favorite photo from the meet last Saturday, but those aren't runners from our team. The guy in the green is from Newman. Dunno about the other one.
