Windy Point Vista, William Harman

Our first outing was a causal drive up Mount Lemmon, stopping at many if not most of the scenic overlooks. Enjoy the trip up and down the mountian.

Yellow-eyed Junco (leg bands), Mt. Lemmon, Pima County, AZ, December 9, 2015.

Mt Lemmon's Ski Valley bills itself as the southernmost ski area in the continental US (I think a place in New Mexico makes the same claim).

This view has been common in the 2017-18 winter. Unfortunately, when the mountain is covered with snow & skiing is good, the road to the ski area is often closed!

Second day at Lemmon. First day we didn't want to wait 6 hours for the road to open up the mountain.

we missed most of it bc we caught some virus (not covid) and got knocked out for the most crucial 2 weeks

Possibly a resident of the village of Summerhaven near the top of 9,159 ft. Mt. Lemmon. Mt. Lemmon is on the northern edge of Tucson and receives 180-200 inches of snow annually. It also has 200 acres of ski runs.

submitted to projectinsight - determination.

The joke is on me.

I knew that I was going to be teaching at music camp - Chamber Music in the Mountains at Echo Glen - all week, so I chose 'determination' for this week's theme because I thought that I would be able to easily get an appropriate shot.

Throughout the week I was on the prowl for action shots of kids learning their quartets - and yes, I saw a lot of determination.

But, in the end, the joke was on me! The greatest amount of determination came from myself! The faculty has to perform and there is an incredibly difficult passage in the Dvorak Serenade for Strings that I couldn't play and I was determined to play it. I worked so hard on those three lines, and I think that I finally have them in my fingers. I'll find out in a few hours at the performance later today.

There is a ski resort at the pinacle of Mt. Lemmon near Tucson, but during my only visit there no one seemed to be skiing on this day. (Scanned from a Kodachrome slide)

Pygmy nuthatch

Mt. Lemmon, AZ USA

Pygmy nuthatches and yellow-eyed juncos are very common at the top of Mt. Lemmon.

Sometimes the best subject are actually the equipment you bring with you. I've always been proud of my truck, so it was only a matter of time that I'd shoot it. Also a shot from same group as the last two.

I lucked out getting a car that drove by on the road; I feel like it would've been pretty bland without it. I always wonder what passersby think of the guy aiming a camera at them on the side of a dark road.
