I joined Ned and the gang on the second of the summer Mount Lemmon hikes on August 5 2015. We hiked the loop formed by the Mt. Lemmon Trail and the Meadow Trail (formerly the Power Line Road and the Lemmon Park Trail) at the top of the mountain.

It's been half a year since Madilyn was attacked and suffered several near-fatal wounds which resulted in inch-deep puncture wounds on her neck, shoulder and skull, and blindness in her left eye.

Each experience she has is a blessing to our lives and she seems more full of energy and pep than ever before.

Over the last year Madilyn has been on a very effective diet and dropped at least 4 pounds.

Madilyn is a Maltese and one of our five spoiled forever dogs. She is 10 years old and been with us since she was a wee pup.

Notice the snow covered mountains in the background. Everytime someone living in Arizona sees snow, it's state law that they grab a camera.

Continuing the drive up to Mt. Lemmon after my Ordinary Object photo yesterday interlude, the Catalina Highway takes you up to Summerhaven and Ski Valley on Mt. Lemmon. One hour from Tucson, it is amazing the changes from desert floor to Alpine forest. This area was the site of a large forest fire a number of years ago and though some of it has been rebuilt, evidence of the fire remains. I did not take many photos at the top but I liked this one with the tracks and the brush pattern. Below is a not so good shot in the afternoon shadows of the ski lift area. There were a few people snowboarding and skiing that day but not much snow. More is expected this coming week. My sister and I had coffee, chocolate and homemade pie at the Irondoor Restaurant which overlooks the ski area.

On July 16 2014 I joined the Sabino Canyon Volunteer Naturalists led hike on Mt. Lemmon. We hiked the loop formed by the Mt. Lemmon Trail and the Meadow Trail (formerly the Power Line Road and the Lemmon Park Trail) at the top of the mountain.

Oh, how I love the sound of aspens in the wind.

Second day at Lemmon. First day we didn't want to wait 6 hours for the road to open up the mountain.

This monsoon storm cell was powerful and lasted for about an hour. Taken about 15 mins before sunset on the top of Mt. Lemmon (9100 ft) in the Catalina mts above Tucson, Arizona. I used a Lightning Trigger attached to a Nikon D-300 and had to hold an umbrella over the gear because of light drizzle.

I went hiking and camping around Mt. Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson. One of the attractions near Mount Lemmon is the little town of Summerhaven.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summerhaven,_Arizona

www.azcentral.com/travel/arizona/features/articles/0804su...

"Life is sweet in Summerhaven, slowly recovering from two devastating fires: the Bullock Fire, which consumed more than 32,000 acres around the village in the summer of 2002, and the Aspen Fire, which came a year later to devour more than 300 homes, cabins and shops.

Several businesses have been rebuilt, others are planned and big, expensive homes in various stages of construction dot the hills. Parking lots, something that had been lacking before the fires, are being built. Removal of dead trees and building rubble continues, seedlings have been planted and the vegetation is slowly coming back.

"We've rebounded," said Vic Zimmerman, owner of Mt. Lemmon Cookie Cabin, a pizza and cookie restaurant that reopened about a year ago. "It's a fun place to visit again."

It's also cool, really cool. Daytime temperatures in Summerhaven typically are 35 degrees below those in Phoenix. On a recent afternoon, after a 45-minute downpour that had patrons dashing into Zimmerman's and begging for hot chocolate, the mercury registered 61 - 50 degrees lower than in Phoenix at that hour."

THE BEE - by Emily Dickinson

Like trains of cars on tracks of plush

I hear the level bee:

A jar across the flowers goes,

Their velvet masonry

Withstands until the sweet assault

Their chivalry consumes,

While he, victorious, tilts away

To vanquish other blooms.

His feet are shod with gauze,

His helmet is of gold;

His breast, a single onyx

With chrysoprase, inlaid.

His labor is a chant,

His idleness a tune;

Oh, for a bee's experience

Of clovers and of noon!

The Hermit Warblers also migrate through in Late Summer on Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, AZ. This one was right above me as I rested on a log. Hence, the odd angle.

Taken on the Butterfly Trail near the Bigelow Towers, Mt Lemmon, Tucson, Arizona.

Our first outing was a causal drive up Mount Lemmon, stopping at many if not most of the scenic overlooks. Enjoy the trip up and down the mountian.
