Thanks to Bryan Smith for helping with the ID of this little critter. I knew it was a chipmunk, just didn't know the "Cliff" part.

That stretch of Mount Lemmon Highway threads through towering hoodoos and jagged rock spires like a snake through a jungle. While the curves suggest motion, it isn’t a landscape to rush through. Massive rock formations jut skyward and the sparse vegetation – scrubby junipers, maybe a few agaves – adds texture without softening the starkness.

On the weekend of August 9th Tania's nephew and his wife visited us, so on Saturday we drove them up Mount Lemmon for a short hike and picnic. We followed the Meadow Trail as far as Lemmon Park and the overview.

Went up the mountain to shoot some film for class. Only took a few digital shots, I was happiest with this one. Hopefully Ill be able to scan the film shots before too long!

I was able to make an unplanned trip up Mt Lemmon this morning. The picnic area at Marshall's Gulch on Mt Lemmon was thick with Red-faced Warblers. They are very jumpy, but eventually get used to my presence and then came very close.

I went up to Windy Point in the Catalina Mtns outside of Tucson hoping to catch some monsoon rain and possibly some lightning, but the storm went south. Heavy cloud cover to the west blocked the light as the sun set, but I got a few decent shots earlier while I was waiting around. This was probably the best of the lot. (best viewed on black)
Beautiful, HUGE Desert Centipede (6-8 inches). I hear an envenomation from one of these is EXTREMELY painful, and can put a child, sick, or elderly person in the hospital (or worse).
