I had been walking around Mt. Rainier National Park for about three hours and had just completed a one mile ascent to some cabins that, at times, I thought I wasn't going to finish without help. There comes a time, no matter how gorgeous the scenery or how exciting your subject that you are ready to just be done and this time was rapidly approaching. I had dismantled lenses, stowed my equipment back in my bag, and began the final few hundred feet to the end of the trail.
As I came through a clearing, just short of the parking lot, I noticed this gorgeous creature laying down and resting. I stopped, almost in disbelief that I was so close, and we stared at each other for a couple of minutes. To my excitement, my new friend wasn't going anywhere so I assembled my camera and lined up for some shots...I kept getting closer and closer and then the deer almost started to pose for me.
Ziggy is standing on top of Mt. Agassiz (13,893' / 4234m). Harry is visible hiking up from the right. Whasabe and Scott are also there, but not visible in the photo.
This picture was taken from the trail along Bishop Lakes, exactly 1.2 miles (1.9 km) linear distance with a 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens.

This photo is the close-up view of Mt. Rushmore. I took this photo from the parking lot with my telephoto lens.
A dramatic island off the coast of Normandy, Mont-St-Michel is home to an abbey that dates back to the 11th century and now boasts impressive illuminations at night. The island, with its fast and fickle tides, was a notorious prison during the French Revolution of 1789. The isle, which celebrated its 1300th anniversary in 2008, has several good restaurants and a nightclub. Only a narrow causeway built in1880 links the island to the mainland, although a bridge is due to be completed in 2012.

Mt Jellore N.S.W
About 187 million years ago the whole of Eastern Australia was uplifted creating the steep escarpments of the Blue Mountains and resulting in the opening of the Tasman and Coral seas. Volcanic intrusions during this Late Triassic to Jurassic period also created peaks such as Mount Jellore and Mount Flora. (an intrusion is an underground seepage of Magma as opposed to an "extrusion" or "volcano"). The Jellore intrusion squeezed through the now eroded Hawkesbury sandstone bed comprised of sand earlier washed down from Broken Hill.
The prominent Trachyte/Microsyenite peak of Mt Jellore is the same material as was quarried from nearby Mt Gibraltar at Mittagong which can be seen as the blueish hard blocks curbing the streets of Sydney's CBD.
The first white visitors were Wilson and Collins in 1798. They were sent to explore the Southern extent of the then impassable Blue Mountains. Ex-convict Wilson who had for many years lived with the Aboriginals was chosen for this task for his intrepid endurance and bush knowledge.
In 1828, Deputy Surveyor General Mitchell ascended Mt Jellore to triangulate the northern peak of Mt Warrawalong in order to map the whole Sydney basin from the South. His convict labourers spent 4 days clearing the summit except for 7 trees. On one he carved his name and nailed a copper George IV penny. He could clearly see the South Head lighthouse and the working windmills of Sydney as we can now observe the castellated shapes of the CBD, North Sydney and Chatswood on a clear day.
At the base of Jellore he records finding Aboriginal campsites near his own. These huts made of bark flattened and joined like the roof of a house to cover a square metre. The chief of this Nattai tribe Moyengully, became one of his earliest Aboriginal friends.
The surrounding reserves still contain numerous Nattai Aboriginal sites, including axe grinding grooves, engravings, cave art, shelter caves, open camps and surface artifact scatter sites. It is likely that many more sites have yet to be recorded.
Direct access to Mt Jellore is difficult but it occupies a large part of my north easterly view beyond a gorge that separates me. The sun rising from, and setting against it, gives me many lovely photographic opportunities.

At Mt Fuji playing some golf. Might be hard to see the beauty of fuji-
san with the iPhone, but here on the course it is stunning.
The weather is fantastic and the sky is blue. I put on some warm
underwear and am now feeling the heat.
Finished the first nine holes and am now going in for some steak and
beer before hitting the back nine. In the main island of Japan most
golfers take a break after nine holes.
After the beer and steak most of them play better on the back nine as
well.

MT. GUITING-GUITING, 2,058m ASL, is saw-tooth shaped mountain located in the heart of Sibuyan Island, one of the seven islands of Romblon Province in the Philippines. Guiting-Guiting, in the local dialect means "jagged", which explains the name of the mountain. This mountain is acknowledged as the most difficult and technically challenging Philippine mountain to climb, alongside Mount Halcon in Mindoro and Mount Mantalingajan in Palawan.
Stunning views of Mt Cooks South Face from the deck of Mueller Hut (1810m). Sometimes known as the highest backpackers in New Zealand, such is its popularity with overseas travellers. Not hard to see why on a day like this!
I've lived in Oregon since 1987 and have admired Mt Hood from a distance but this is the first time I've been this close. Paul is working on a project here so Ruby and I tagged along. Cooper got to go to our friend's where he can play with her schnoodles.
