the new Oshkosh M-ATV MRAP's. The U.S. Military recently awarded Oshkosh the contract to build them to be used as one of the lighter replacements for the HMMWV (a.k.a. Humvee). They offer the same protection as a traditional MRAP but in a smaller package. thanks WasteManagemenDude

these are pretty heavily inspired by some stuff scotty whitesell's built. they both have basic independent suspension- no rubber bands or anything though, so it's really just for posing. the bigger truck is modular but i haven't built anything else to put on the back of it. let me know what you think!
This is a 1:16 scale model of M-ATV MRAP vehicle, customized according to our customer's requirements. This model is meant for trade shows and presentations, therefore it produced from high durability plastic, metal and reinforced with metal and carbon fiber.
This model was designed in 3D software based on the earlier 3D models of the 1:8 scale models of the M-ATV MRAPs. The customized enclosure/cargo compartment was produced by rapid prototyping. In order to reduce the model's cost we used a pre-producted replica of a base M-ATV, which we upgraded and adopted to accommodate this custom enclosure and accompanying components. The model was assembled and finished manually.
The model is mounted on a mahogany base with a clear protective cover. It is packed in a military grade Pelican transit case with a customized foam lining.
The model was appreciated by the customer for its quality, accuracy and high level of details. In a week after submission the model headed to its first trade show.

Several hundred Bagram runners started the Boston Marathon Military Shadow Run at 3 a.m. Apr. 14. They had to dodge potholes, MRAPS, buses, and vehicles of almost every description to complete their run. The weather cooperated with a coo, slightly cloudy morning. Two contractors, one Army captain and one D.A. civilian from the 401st ran the race.

The $1.02 million project, being managed by Europe District’s Livorno Project Office, also covers a wash rack repair in a fourth building. Maj. Gen. Timothy P. McHale, Deputy Commanding General—Support for U.S. Forces Afghanistan, came to visit the Soldiers, Civilians and contractors of the 401st Army Field Support Battalion—Kandahar. He met with many of the people responsible for maintaining and providing maneuver units with various types of tactical vehicles.

Yes, its HDR. But I figured it was the only way to get the sky at sunset, the MRAPS, and the foreground all exposed properly. I think the effect was alright.

401st said Happy Birthday to several August babies during a combined birthday party Aug. 18. After toasting with sparkling apple cider and non-alcoholic beer, everyone enjoyed pizza, sandwiches, chips and two birthday cakes. The pizza was compliments of Col. Michel M. Russell, Sr., the 401st AFSB commander until Jul. 18. Thank you, Col. Russell!

A development of the South African RG31 Nyala, the RG32 was built by BAe for the Finnish Army. It fulfills an MRAP role in the Finnish armed forces and is lightly armed, but capable of withstanding hits from mines. (Note: the bonnet looks longer than it really is in this shot)
