GAETA, Italy (August 13, 2012) – Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Pritam Sahni, a Sailor stationed aboard USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), mans a 25mm Bushmaster cannon as Mount Whitney prepares to get underway from Gaeta, Italy. Mount Whitney, homeported in Gaeta, Italy, is the U.S. 6th Fleet flagship and operates with a combined crew of U.S. Sailors and Military Sealift Command civil service mariners. The civil service mariners perform navigation, deck, engineering, laundry and galley service operations while military personnel aboard support communications, weapons systems and security. Mount Index is a peak in the central part of the Cascade Range of Washington state. It lies just south of the Skykomish River and U.S. Route 2, at the western edge of the Cascades. Out and about very early this morning looking for some winter "wind" magic. The storm left us with about 6 to 8 inches, but with 50 mph wind gusts, that's hard to determine.
The temp was at minus -8 and sometimes that can create some vibrant colors before the sunrise.

The 7103 stratovolcano Mount Mageik. It is very much active and is usually steaming. Its more recent flows are on its south side, the opposite side from us. There are two little lakes at its base, Mageik Lakes, that are nice hiking destinations, so I hear. :)
Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, about 9 km (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is one of several volcanoes which form the Campanian volcanic arc. Vesuvius consists of a large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a summit caldera caused by the collapse of an earlier and originally much higher structure.

Mount Vernon, situated on the Potomac, about 21 km (13 miles) south of Washington D.C. is a most enjoyable place to visit and the best venue to learn about the life and times of George Washington. The estate was central in his life from the day he was born in 1732, to the day he died in 1799. In fact, it had been in the family since 1674 when George's great-grandfather came into possession of the land on which a plantation was carved and the mansion was built. George and wife Martha are buried here in the family crypt.
