Mount Nikko-Shirane is a shield volcano in the Nikko National Park in central Honshu, the main island of Japan. It stands at 2,578m high, and is one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan.

Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain, with a peak at 8848m. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas on the Nepal side of Nepal-China (Tibet) border. Its massif includes neighboring peaks Lhotse (8516 m), Nuptse (7855 m) and Changtse (7580 m). Mount Everest is also called Chomolangma, meaning 'Goddess Mother of Snows' in Tibetan and Sagarmatha, meaning 'Mother of the Universe' in Nepalese. The mountain is sacred to the native people.

 

Mount Hua

Hua Shan (simplified Chinese: 华山; traditional Chinese: 華山; pinyin: Huà Shān, sometimes spoken Huá Shān) is located in the Shaanxi Province, about 120 kilometres east of the city of Xi'an, near the city Huayin in China. Also known as Xi Yue, The Western Sacred Mountain, it is the western mountain of China's Five Sacred Taoist Mountains, and has a long history of religious significance. Originally classified as having three peaks, in modern times the mountain is classified as five main peaks, of which the highest is the South Peak at 2160 m.

 

Huashan is located near the southeast corner of the Ordos Loop section of the Yellow River basin, south of the Wei River valley, at the eastern end of the Qinling Mountains, in southern Shaanxi province. It is part of the Qin Ling Mountain Range that divides not only northern and southern Shaanxi, but also China.

Erik Törner is a Tibet analyst from IM.

 

In Himalaya Magazine, Erik writes: "Chongye Valley, at last. I am overwhelmed by a sense of importance. It feels like the end of some kind of personal pilgrimage.

Chongye is a valley adjecent to and sometimes treated as part of the Yarlung Valley. It is a quiet, windy and barren corridor in Southern Tibet.

 

Impressive, sure, but so is almost all of these Tibetan valleys. Is this one special? Nothing to suggest that. At this time, in January, the place is emtpy so even if this particular valley had some kind of extra pull it is not noticeable as the tourist season is at its lowest.

 

There are a couple of brown mounds, some with the usual prayer flags and stone chortens atop, and on one a small Nyingmapa temple.

 

Not much to see really.

 

Nothing, if it weren’t for the fact that those mounds are not natural. They are tombs. Very old tombs.

It is who’s buried here that makes this a special place. And it is what this place means for anyone wanting to understand Tibet that made me struggle through all the hazzle of Chinese paperwork, of guides and permits, to finally realizing my dream and come here."

Wikipedia: The Valley of the Kings or Chongye Valley branches off the Yarlung Valley to the southwest and contains a series of graveyard tumuli, burial mounds. South of Tsetang, Tibet, near the town of Chongye (Qonggyai) on Mure Mountain in Qonggyai County of the Shannan Prefecture.

 

The site possesses eight large mounds of earth resembling natural hills that are believed to contain eight to ten buried Tibetan kings.

 

"According to Tibetan tradition all the kings from Dri-gum onwards are buried at ‘Phyong-rgyas, but as the site now presents itself, there are just ten tumuli identifiable as the tombs of all the kings from Srong-brtsan-sgam-po to Khri-lde-srong-brtsan, including two princes . . . ."

 

Other sources, however, have indicated that there are actually nine mounds rather than eight or ten.

 

The kings believed to be buried at the site include Songtsän Gampo (the founder of the Tibetan Empire), Nansong Mangsten, Tridu Songtsen, Gyangtsa Laban, Tride Tsugtsen, Trisong Detsen, Muni Tsangpo and Tritsu Detsen.

Mount La Salle 16th May 2023

 

Tom Murphy, from the Ballyfermot Heritage Group, while he was researching came across a document which said that there was a time capsule put into the foundation stone of the De La Salle Brothers Monastery. He read that inside the capsule there was 3 photos of Saints, some memorabilia and coinage. He immediately informed the Ballyfermot Heritage Group which in turn informed the management of the building company Dwyer Nolan Developers. When they knocked the Monastery, right enough the time capsule was inside the foundation stone which was laid and blessed on 6th June 1950.

 

On the 16 May 2023 Tom Murphy, Joe Coleman, John Deering, Sean Brennan, and Ken Larkin along with Edwin O’ Dwyer and Sean Canna Health and Safety officer of Dwyer Nolan, , met up on site to unveil what was in the time capsule. When the capsule was opened we found the Saints pictures with a paper and written on the paper was confirmation as to what was on the Foundation stone. There was no coins of any description inside the capsule. There were 2 empty envelopes and we can only presume the coinage was taken from the envelopes back on 6th May 1950 before they built on the foundation stone. The Ballyfermot Heritage Group would like to thank Edwin and Sean for all their help and for giving us a tour of the site today. Also, we would like to thank Philipa. Philipa is managing the archaeology of the site with her team.

Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, about 9 km (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is one of several volcanoes which form the Campanian volcanic arc. Vesuvius consists of a large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a summit caldera caused by the collapse of an earlier and originally much higher structure.

The mountain Esja (914 m (2,999 ft)) often called Esjan ("the Esja") is situated in the south-west of Iceland, about 10 km to the north of Iceland's capital city Reykjavík. Esja is not a single mountain, but a volcanic mountain range, made from basalt and tuff-stone.

 

Within easy reach of the capital, Esja is a very popular recreation area for hikers and climbers. The best known hiking paths lead to the summits Þverfellshorn and Kerhólakambur (851 m). Þverfellshorn is also easy accessible by public transport.

 

The path is divided into sections, marked with signs along the way. Each sign gives an indication of the difficulty of the path ahead with a grade system ranging from 1 boot (easy) to 3 boots (challenging). At sign 3 experienced climbers can choose to climb directly to the top, instead of following the path which goes of to the right. Approximately 200 meters below the top, there is a point marked with a big rock called Steinn. It is here that most inexperienced climbers choose to go down again, as the path becomes increasingly difficult from there.

It's steep, and to make things worse, it's really wet.

outside of antarctica this is as remote and inhospitable a location as you are likely to get to anywhere - but it is breathtakingly beautiful! and you cannot see a human artifact, except the faint trace of googs track, the challenging 4WD trail over dunes up to 27 metres high used to reach the area, from this summit

A World Heritage Site and self-governed state in the Hellenic Republic, Athos is home to 20 stavropegial Eastern Orthodox monasteries under the direct jurisdiction of the patriarch of Constantinople. Today Greeks commonly refer to Mount Athos as the "Holy Mountain".

Mount Abu prides on being the only hill station in Rajasthan. This place acts as an oasis retreat from the extremely hot climate of Rajasthan. It is known for it’s beautiful hilly landscape and the architectural marvel of the Delwara Jain Temple. Nature enthusiasts will love taking nature walks in this picturesque, green environment.

Mount Jenner is a 1874 meter high mountain which belongs to the Göllstock in the Berchtesgaden Alps of Germany. It is one of the few mountains in the region that is accessible via a cable lift system making it very popular summer and winter destination.

 

The view from the summit of Mount Jenner includes the Watzmann, the third highest mountain in Germany as well as the 1200 meter deep Konigssee Lake.

 

This young woman, Joy Easton, from Alaska, came to visit her brother in the Army who was stationed in Frankfurt. John dated her for several months and reported that he enjoyed her company.
