Happened "accidentally" when taking a photograph of the spider on my backpack... people just don't know how to wait their turn for having their picture taken.

This mosquito was on Laura's jacket. I should have put a ruler next to it to emphasize its size. It was so big it could have drawn a pint of blood faster than a lab tech. It died quite suddenly after this photo was taken. No blood lost...on our side.
I paid dearly for this picture. Aside from the massive quantities of mosquitoes and horseflies on this hike, I hiked harder than I was in shape for, didn't adequately stretch afterwards, and tore my right calf muscle this morning at home (it was a bit tender on the way down from the hike). I'm going to the doctor tomorrow morning, but I suspect I'm done hiking for the season.
I headed with a couple friends toward Molar Pass to see the wildflowers. Through some inexplicable oversight, we somehow all missed the fork in the trail and headed instead for North Molar Pass: also a beautiful destination, but a longer, steeper hike. We didn't make it all the way to the pass, but we did see some amazing wildflower meadows and mountain views. This shot was taken on the way back, about 3 km from the trailhead.
This mosquito was obtained from a wrl file and made into a phantogram by superimposing it on a pic of lily pads.

The mosquitoes were pretty bad, but they were at their worst on the back side of the lake. I was trying to get a photo, and couldn't keep from getting the bugs in front of the lens. Finally, I got one on the third try, but stopping for one shot was painful enough.
The four reddish items to the left are the hearts of a mosquito larvae taken with my Bausch and Lomb microscope.

this one got third in the macro challenge. I totally got lucky that it flew right by me while I was taking macro pictures.
