Summer is the best time to go camping, have family barbecues and get-togethers, have outdoor activities and games, do some garden work. It is also the best time to get swarmed by mosquitoes. Mosquitoes love summer. They love warm places because they could breed faster and live longer in them. Don’t be surprised if you get swarmed by mosquitoes while you're out minding your own business. You are their business. Using topical repellents is okay. But once it wears off, you are again exposed to some more vicious piercing and stinging. It is not enough to just ward off those little blood-suckers. You should see to it that they are eliminated. It's time to get a mosquito trap.
An attempt at macro stacking (but the combinezm failed, so this is a (bad) hash done in Gimp by me...
I didn't really think this would work when I took these photos. I was walking past a big old Redgum treetrunk that was laying on its side and there was a pool of water in a hollowed out section. I had a look around and saw these mosquito larva wriggling about in the water (we call them wrigglers here in Australia because of how they move).I thought i'd take a couple of photos just for something different and this is the result. The lens was obviously out of the water, so I was photographing through the water surface with a flash as well, that's why I didn't think it would work.

A tightly cropped version of a full-body image. Nikon D60, PN-11 tube, 105mm f:2.5 AI-S lens, with a 20x Nikon Profile Projector lens (not reversed) mounted on the front, lighting provided by pop-up flash bounced off foil reflectors. The end of the Profile Projector lens was resting on my arm, focusing done by moving my arm slightly. Although capable of delivering images having good detail, the combination of add-on and primary lens along with an extension tube is a somewhat cumbersome combination, and not the easiest arrangement to work with.

Fighting the mosquitoes that transfer malaria to humans has been difficult. Mosquitoes have developed resistance to the chemical insecticides that are used to control them. Now scientists have found a way to kill mosquitoes without harming people or the environment.
