After all the rain and flooding, the mosquito population has grown to an alarming size. Our walks are cut short and we are spending way too much time inside for this time of year!
He tried to bite me. But at least he famous right now.

super macro of a mosquito. it's amazing to see their eyes, and their hairs, most especially the fact that they are not really black. sad to say i did not record my method and right now i'm still trying to do it again. tried once already and can't seem to get it right. maybe i have to do this at midnight as it was already past 12 when i shot this.... oooooh.... spoooky.
... and how to keep them out of the kitchen.
Just stick one on the window pane and frighten the other lot. :-)))

Mosquito River is in the James Bay region and located near the big hydro-electric dam. This was my first attempt at slow shutter speed to get the water silky.
I was standing on pedestrian bridge going over the river and I use the railing to steady my camera as I did not have a tripod.

All the rain this summer has caused a spectacular bloom of mosquitoes -- they're usually pretty much done in by August. And the state is telling me to avoid getting bit: West Nile or Eastern equine encephalitis or who knows what all. All the DEET I'm wearing is just so much salad dressing to these guys.
I'm not much for smells and bells in any liturgical sense, but I discovered by accident some years back that mosquitoes hate church incense. This only stands to reason, but does not seem to be widely documented.
First attempt to capture a Macro Shot using Reverse Lens Technique !
i never had a reverse ring adapter with me, clicked it while holding the lens with one hand.
very hard to get the object in focus , but i love macro photography..requires lots of patience.. need to do experiments ..
Mosquito larva | Mosquito head and mouthpart | Mosquito head
Today in university, we had a tropical medicine lab on the subject of entomology. It's such an interesting topic, that I thought I'd share my photos here on Flickr. One of the main things we did today was study mosquitoes. All the photos are mosquitoes of the genus Culex (most probably Culex pipiens, but I can't be 100% sure).
In this photo is the larva of the Culex mosquito. It can be differentiated from other mosquitoes (Anopheles and Aedes) because it has a breathing tube (unlike the Anopheles mosquito) which is long and narrow (unlike the Aedes mosquito, which has a short breathing tube).
The recommendation to wear long pants can be difficult for some people to accept when during hot summers. Net clothing can be a suitable substitute that can protect against ticks, mosquitoes, and biting flies. For biting flies, you will need a head net.

Mosquito on the water - assume this had recently emerged rather than egg-laying. Focus stacked using zerene stacker.
I'm squeezing this one in there because I'm still in disbelief. Yesterday's outing took me to the salty wetlands on the San Francisco Bay. Apparently, they had decided to spray against mosquitoes at low tide, so these guys were out there in their cool machines (I really liked these terrain going vehicles). There were three of them and they were all spraying different colors - this was the "green" guy as you can tell from the stains on his vehicle. However, the smell around the area was extremely unpleasant and yet this guy wasn't even wearing a mask. How he could stand it is beyond me. I was certainly having problems with the gagging. I didn't get close enough to the other two sprayers to see if they were wearing masks.
Anyway, this shot is straight out of the camera - no crop, no adjustments, no nada ;-). I like it as it is so thought I'd share it - hope they got those West Nile Virus carrying buggers.
All my shots on FLUIDR
maybe this shot is not very expectacular but is one of my favorites. i was trying to catch some butterflies wich were feeding on the sidewalk near home when i saw this little mosquito blowing some nectar. Then suddenly an enourmous butterfly chose the some flower to eat some nectar, and after some movements, they both found its place to feed together and receive a little of life as brothers.
I felt this was the way in wich we could share the world with other species and with other persons in our place, our land, our planet. Maybe there are many flowers as planets in the universe. But we only have "the flower" "our flower" wich is unique, like the flower of the petit prince.
