A view of the beautiful Stanley Park in Vancouver one early morning, taken near the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Royal Vancouver Yacht Club has a history of 100+ years, but the Stanley Park has a history much longer.

Views to Mount Esja (914 m high), who shows her true textures during sunrise in winter.
The mountain was probably created during the early stages of the ice age, about 2,5 million years ago, and stacked up with alternating strata of basaltic lavas and hyaloclastites, which have been metamorphosed and show a variety of colours.
Morning Glory Pool is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Upper Geyser Basin despite being less beautiful than it once was, since large amounts of rocks and trash have been thrown into the pool by thoughtless visitors, significantly reducing the water temperature. The pool used to be filled by rich blue water, with a narrow ring of orange-yellow bacteria only around the edge; now the water is more greenish and the algae band is much wider. The pool is 20 feet in diameter, 23 feet deep, round and symmetric, with a conical vent at the center, and may be viewed from a raised boardwalk that extends along nearly half its circumference. The spring drains westwards into the Firehole River, 100 feet away. It was named in 1883 for its resemblance in color and shape to the morning glory flower.

From the archives.....first light hits the peaks surrounding Moraine Lake in Banff National Park; one of the most beautiful areas in the Canadian Rockies imho, and one where we will be returning to in just four short weeks.

I just love the soft morning light. The early hours often give the most beautiful views/shots. Also the most difficult ones, because light is scarse and speed is almost impossible to catch.
This shot was taken at the very last day of our mini holiday. We were heading back home and anchored the Tembo for the night in Kampen where the IJssel flows into the IJsselmeer.
I rose at 6 and coffee never tastes better than on deck of the Tembo, when all is still silent and the sun is just rising. You hear every sound and your senses pick up every little detail.
Suddenly, there's the flapping of wings, still in the distance. Against the light I could see the silhouettes of 3 swans approaching. Grabbed the camera and started shooting, not bothering about settings and all.
Ofcourse the picture is grainy and ofcourse it lacks detail but still, the elegant shapes of the backlit swans still enchant me just as much as when I saw them in real life. Hope you like it also.

During the late morning along the shore near Fort Pickens in florida this Great Blue Heron was just strolling along enjoying the day.
i am home with a sick girl today. it's weird because she has a low fever, threw up once but doesn't feel sick really. please think good thoughts - we have plans to bring one of her buddies to the snow on friday and it would be such a bummer if we had to cancel...

Splendid chaps the Morning Momentum crew. They are usually in the water 20 minutes before my swimming group and they have done a run and exercises before they go in. They have a mobile wooden sauna they set up near the slipway too. Today they got a beautiful morning for it.
Early one morning, I noticed lovely lavender layers as I looked eastward towards Mt. Baker. The low cloud bank created an interesting effect below the mountain. My reward tor getting up early! :)
