This morning I was driving home and spotted this Eastern Painted Turtle on the side of a very busy four lane road. (Route 85 in Waterford, CT in front of the Waterford Commons shopping center) I was able to safely pull over and jump out just in time to pick it up, it was kind of scary! I drove home with the turtle on my lap.
This is the second Eastern Painted Turtle I have saved from a busy road this summer, I'm going to start carrying a bucket in my vehicle.
There is a nearby nice quiet pond that I released the other turtle into, so I will do the same for this one. Maybe they will become friends or mates.
You can't quite get the feel for the morning walk unless you can listen to the sounds too. I was looking for a sandhill crane nest but couldn't find one. The cranes come swooping into this area every day so I thought there might be a nest hidden somewhere.
This is Saturday morning along the Sheboygan River. The fog has drifted of Lake Michigan and blanketed the nearby area. As the day went on the fog's density increased and decreased again and again. It became an all-day fog.
This is a view along the north side of the riverfront walk and across the river from where I live.
This Great Blue Heron waits and waits for something to swim by to eat. This time there was nothing and he soon left. Marsh in Southeastern Connecticut

It's ever so slightly underexposed -- but this is what I woke up to this morning!

our unique daily opportunity to smell time,
to smell opportunity -
each morning being, a new beginning."

I am so often reminded of the Glory of GOD whenever I look at the beauty in a morning sunrise. I was photographing some leaves in the early morning light, and was caught off guard by the amazing colors that were coming off the leaves in the early light. When I looked up and over my shoulders, I saw the reason why. The sun had not even come over the horizon yet, but the clouds were giving off some terrific reflected light. Oh that we could give off the reflected light of Jesus Christ to those around us and see the true beauty in those He has blessed us with!
The bird was against the strong morning light, it got silhouetted..

A sunny Saturday morning shot from a very dense garden. I liked the light & natural colours so much I was almost late for work after taking too many photos.

It looked in the other night
like a watcher, through my forgotten curtains
big yellow eye
looking impassively
I turned over, but it kept its gaze on me
