Even monks need to get around the city.

I was off out to eat. Monk was on his way up. I said: "Yo, Monk, fancy eating with us?" He said "No, I want to watch the footie." I ate at Monks - the food was lovely. I found Monk afterwards. He hadn't found a pub that was showing the footie. Still, we passed Monks the next day. Monk never got to eat there. What a story

The Monk Parakeet, also known as the Quaker Parrot, (Myiopsitta monachus) is an invasive species of parrot which is doing quite well in South Florida. My longan tree are with fruit so I now have a dozen or more of these very noisy fellows hanging around my back yard all day.

The language featured on this can is Thai. As of the summer of 2017, Coca-Cola did not have a contract in Laos. However, the popular soft drink is imported from the socialist nation's southern neighbor.

This is one of my favorite places in Southeast Asia.

Luang Prabang (เบซเบฅเบงเบ‡เบžเบฐเบšเบฒเบ‡ in Laotian or Louang Phabang), commonly transliterated into Western languages from the pre-1975 Lao spelling เบซเบผเบงเบ‡เบžเบฃเบฐเบšเบฒเบ‡ literally meaning "Royal Buddha Image," is a city in north central Laos, consisting of 58 adjacent villages, of which 33 comprise the UNESCO Town Of Luang Prabang World Heritage Site. It was listed in 1995 for unique and "remarkably" well preserved architectural, religious and cultural heritage, a blend of the rural and urban developments over several centuries, including the French colonial influences during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The center of the city consists of four main roads and is located on a peninsula at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers. Luang Prabang is well known for its numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries. Every morning, hundreds of monks from the various monasteries walk through the streets collecting alms. One of the city's major landmarks is Mount Phou Si, a large steep hill which despite the constrained scale of the city, is 150 meters (490 feet) high, a steep staircase leads to Wat Chom Si shrine and an overlook of the city and the rivers.

The city was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name. It had also been known by the ancient name of Chiang Thong. It was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos, until the Pathet Lao takeover in 1975. The city is part of Luang Prabang District of Luang Prabang Province and is the capital and administrative center of the province. It lies approximately 300 kilometers (190 miles) north of the capital Vientiane. Currently, the population of the city as a whole is roughly 56,000 inhabitants with the UNESCO protected site being inhabited by around 24,000.

Site of Monk Moors halt, between Bootle and Eskmeals, Cumbrian Coast line. Tuesday 24 July 2018

In 1897 Naval Construction & Armament Ltd, the then operators of Barrow Shipyard established a gun testing range on the shoreline near Eskmeals. A railway siding was laid for the delivery of heavy naval gun mountings; this line ran in south-westerly direction from the Cumbrian coast railway between Bootle and Eskmeals and was connected to the northbound track (towards Workington).

In 1900 immediately south of the junction two short wooden platforms were erected on the main line embankment for the use of workers employed on the range. This halt was named Monk Moors and was used only by authorised sta๏ฌ€. Access to both platforms was from a lane immediately east of the railway bridge that it ran under. You went up a sloped path to the south end of the southbound platform where pedestrian access was also provided across the main line for the northbound platform. There was also a signal box on the east side of the railway, north of the junction.

The halt and branch line have long since disappeared; the firing range is now a well secured MOD site.

"Tsuglagkhang" or "Tsuglag Khang", the Dalai Lama's temple is the most important place for Tibetan people in Mcleodganj.

The special dress code of these Monks are robes, comes from the idea of wearing cheap clothes just to protect the body from weather and climate. They shall not be made from one piece of cloth, but mended together from several pieces. Since dark red was the cheapest colour in Kashmir, the Tibetan tradition has red robes. In the south, yellow played the same role, though the color of saffron also had cultural associations in India.

Went to Tucson June 2 2007 to watch a performance by the Gyuto Monks Tibetan Tantric Choir.

What makes their chanting different is that each of these Gyuto monks have trained for years to learn how to sing as much as an entire chord at once.

"What's really special is that these monks can sing multiple tones simultaneously," said Jonathan Holden, a UApresents publicist. "It makes a half-dozen people sound like a 30- or 40-person choir. It's a very altering experience."

The singing is just a part of their intense religious training, which also includes yoga techniques, meditation and the study of Buddhist scripture.

"This form of chanting is a part of a sacred ritual; it's a practice. It's their yoga, as it were," Holden said.

When China took over Tibet in 1959, the Gyuto monks fled with the Dalai Lama from Lhasa, Tibet, where they had been living for centuries. The Gyuto monks are now living in exile, as are many other Buddhist sects, Holden said. The Gyuto monks are currently based out of a monastery near Dharamsala, India.

Most monks enter the monastery during childhood, eventually attainting the equivalent of a doctorate, Holden said.

When Grateful Dead artist Mickey Hart learned of the Gyuto monks in the 1980s, he worked to bring them from their monastery to the United States for a concert tour. They came through Tucson during that original tour, Holden said, and performed at Centennial Hall.
