Also known as the Quaker parrot. Thousands of monk parakeets were imported to the United States between the 1960s and the 1980s as pets. Many escaped and since then they have established colonies across the U.S. The Monk is one of the few temperate-zone parrots, making it more able than most to survive cold climates. Monmouth, NJ.
The monk seemed to smile at the web in his hands. To me the web symbolizes life with its divergence and fragibility. Image taken in Lindau, Germany 2016.

This Central and South American bird has taken up residence in some unbelievable places like Illinois and New York. This Happy looking fellow lives with 60+ of his dearest friends in a tree in the front yard of a lucky family in South Texas a couple miles from the Mexican border.
These sixty parakeets had built four large nests the size of a loveseat out of twigs in the canopy of a tree. The Monk Parakeet is a very social bird that seem to really enjoy one another, so they built a few of these large nest out of twigs that they live in. I have never heard so much sound emanate from a tree.
And isn't he the happiest looking bird?

Another "gone in 60 sec" moment.....the quality of the photo is not so good, I had to do it fast, and to stay unnoticed....I was somehow embarrassed to interrupt this moment...I had a feeling that i found myself in the middle of old flemish masters painting....

One from earlier this year which I didn't get round to processing at the time. A misty morning at Monk Coniston Jetty January 2018 taken just as the sun was starting to burn off the mist.
